iTV (Independent Television) was a former Thai terrestrial television station operating on the UHF system, established by iTV Public Company Limited. The station began broadcasting on 1 July 1996 with the original mission of focusing on news and informative programming, later expanding into other types of content. It was one of the first television stations in Thailand to provide nationwide coverage outside the traditional state-controlled broadcasters.
iTV initially broadcast on Channel 26, later changing to Channel 29. However, due to financial difficulties and disputes over concession fees, the station ceased broadcasting on 7 March 2007.
After its closure, iTV was replaced by Thai PBS (Thai Public Broadcasting Service), a state-funded public television broadcaster. iTV is remembered for its significant role in Thailand’s media liberalization era and for its strong reputation in investigative journalism, news, and documentary programming.
