One evening in Na Khae village, Thong, a skilled subordinate of Pho Khun, the village headman, is forced to collect a debt for farmland from Old Phet—the father of Waew, Thong’s beloved. Unable to pay, Old Phet is compelled to sell his daughter out of fear of Pho Khun’s power.

Waew is brought into Pho Khun’s household to serve Duang, his daughter. However, Ming, Pho Khun’s son, constantly harasses her and tries to turn her against Thong by speaking ill of him. When Thong finds out, a fight breaks out, and he is defeated. Waew is confined for seven days, and Thong is forbidden from seeing her.

Later, Pho Khun orders Thong to steal cattle. Thong agrees, but only on the condition that Waew will be set free afterward. While Thong is away, Ming schemes to marry Waew. When Thong returns earlier than expected, he realizes he has been deceived. He rescues Waew and takes her to Wiang Khoi to treat her injuries.

Pho Khun places a bounty on Thong and his companions. Upon learning that Thong is hiding in Wiang Khoi, he leads a group to capture him, resulting in a violent confrontation. Thong is forced to surrender when Pho Khun threatens Waew’s father. In the end, Waew agrees to marry Ming to repay her father’s debt, leaving Thong heartbroken and resentful.

Two years later, Na Khae village falls into hardship, and no caravans dare pass through. A young Lao Song man named Saen arrives with a caravan—but in truth, he is Thong in disguise, returning to gather information. By now, Ming has become the new headman, as Pho Khun has grown old. Ming frequently abuses Waew and her child, believing the child to be Thong’s, while also seeking to take Soi, the beautiful younger sister of Son, as another wife. To achieve this, he forces Duang to marry Son.

Thong returns to Na Khae seeking revenge. However, he finds that karma has already punished Waew and Pho Khun, and he chooses to forgive them. Instead, he rushes to rescue Duang, whom Ming has abducted to Wiang Doi. In the end, Thong kills Ming and successfully saves her, bringing his long-held vengeance to a close.

This is an old tale of the people of Bang Kapi, depicting the passionate love of a young village man—so intense that it can no longer be contained.

It says:

"The darker it gets, the harder he will push; the thicker the obstacles, the more he will break through… Oh my beloved, I would die so that the whole village may know how deeply I love you…"

“The Scar” (Plae Kao) tells the story of the lives and love of a young couple from Bang Kapi in the old days. Their way of life and livelihood were no different from those in other rural provinces. However, their love was far from smooth, as the girl’s relatives strongly disapproved and did everything they could to keep them apart—even going so far as to chain her to prevent her from seeing him. Yet the young man never gave up and continued to secretly visit her.

Eventually, her relatives sold her to a man in the city. Within a year, she transformed from a countryside girl into a modern urban woman, attracting the attention of many suitors. Later, upon hearing that her mother was gravely ill, she returned home to care for her. This gave the young man from Bang Kapi a chance to see her again, and their love, long suppressed, flared up even more intensely than before.

After her mother passed away, the brave young man dared to attend the funeral rites despite the hostility of her relatives. As a result, he was secretly attacked—but he fought back, killing several of them. In the end, he was shot, yet he struggled on, swimming toward a sacred banyan shrine where he had once sworn his love.

The young woman ran after him and jumped into the water to reach him. Realizing that their love had no future, the young man made a tragic decision—he stabbed his beloved, and the two sank beneath the water, dying together.

ณ ลุ่มน้ำท่าจีน จังหวัดสาลี อันเป็นเขตกสิกรรม ครอบครัวของพ่อชมดำรงชีพด้วยการทำไร่ไถนามาหลายชั่วอายุคน พ่อชมมีลูกชายด้วยกันอยู่สองคน คือ ช่วย คนพี่คิดจะเจริญรอยตามพ่อ สืบทอดอาชีพกสิกร แต่ ชู คนน้องมักใหญ่ใฝ่สูงอยากจะเป็นขุนนางท่ามกลางเสียงคัดค้านของพ่อชม ชูจึงต้องดิ้นรนหาทางได้เล่าเรียนด้วยตัวเอง และโชคชะตาก็เข้าข้างชู เมื่อวันหนึ่ง ขุนกสิกิจเดินทางมายังจังหวัดสาลีเผอิญถูกตาต้องใจชูเข้า เพราะตัวเองมีแต่ลูกสาวไม่มีลูกชาย จึงขอรับอุปการะชูให้ได้เข้าเรียนที่กรุงเทพ

หลายปีผ่านไป ชูไต่เต้าจนได้เป็นนายอำเภอสมอย่างที่หวัง ไม่เพียงแต่หน้าที่การงานจะก้าวหน้า เรื่องของหัวใจก็กำลังปลูกต้นรักอยู่กับ ผจง ลูกสาวสุดสวยของขุนกสิกิจนั่นเอง ไม่นานหลังจากนั้นก็มีเหตุให้ชูต้องกลับยังบ้านเกิด เนื่องจากขุนกสิกิจได้เลื่อนบรรดาศักดิ์เป็นพระยากสิกิจมาประจำอยู่ที่จังหวัดสาลี บัดนี้ ดำ กับ แจ๋ว เพื่อนเล่นในวัยเด็กของชูผันตัวไปเป็นอันธพาลปล้นทรัพย์ชาวบ้าน เป็นที่เดือดร้อนนัก ร้อนถึงหน้าที่ของนายอำเภอที่ต้องบำบัดทุกข์บำรุงสุขแก่ชาวบ้าน แต่นายอำเภอชูกลับแสดงท่าทีเจ้ายศเจ้าอย่าง เป็นเหตุให้ชาวบ้านต่างพากันเกลียดชัง ดีที่ช่วยคอยช่วยเหลือไกล่เกลี่ย ช่วยจึงเป็นที่รักใคร่ของชาวบ้าน รวมทั้งพระยากสิกิจกับผจงลูกสาวที่เกิดหลงใหลได้ปลื้มในตัวช่วย เพราะนับถือคนประกอบอาชีพกสิกรรมอันเป็นกระดูกสันหลังของชาติเป็นทุนเดิมอยู่แล้ว

เมื่อช่วยรู้ว่าผจงเริ่มมีใจให้ จึงเริ่มไว้ตัว ด้วยรู้ว่าน้องชายสมัครใจรักผู้หญิงคนนี้ และแล้วเหตุร้ายก็เกิดขึ้น เมื่อแจ๋ววางแผนออกปล้นในอีกไม่กี่วันข้างหน้า ช่วยจึงปลอมตัวเป็นโจรเพื่อเกลี้ยกล่อมให้แจ๋วกลับใจ เคราะห์ร้ายครานี้ ตำรวจก็สืบทราบแผนการเช่นกัน จึงนำกำลังล้อมจับ ช่วยจึงติดร่างแหไปด้วย ผจงไปขอร้องให้แจ๋วช่วยบอกความจริงกับตำรวจ แจ๋วซึ่งสำนึกในบุญคุณของช่วยอยู่แล้วก็ยอมทำตาม ทำให้ช่วยพ้นผิดและได้ครองรักกับผจง ชูจึงได้สำนึกและกลับตัวเป็นข้าราชการดีตั้งแต่นั้นมา
