Synopsis
“Daughter of the Jungle” is a fantasy story in the style of a Walt Disney film, created to promote environmental conservation—forests, trees, streams, and wildlife. It aims to inspire viewers to love nature and become more aware of global warming, emphasizing that protecting the environment helps reduce global warming and prevent natural disasters such as floods.
The story follows the adventurous life of a little girl who grows into a young woman named Mengkalia. She becomes lost in the forest, where she faces many hardships before eventually finding her beloved family—her father and grandfather.
Mengkalia, nicknamed “Meng,” is the five-year-old daughter of Damrong, a wealthy young man from northern Thailand, and his beautiful wife, Buaban. Her nanny, La-ae, comes from across the Moei River in Chiang Rai and is deeply loyal to her. La-ae gives the girl the nickname “Mengkalia,” though her real name is Kasalong. La-ae has mystical beliefs and a sixth sense, often making predictions that others dismiss.
She warns Buaban that she will lose someone she loves and face danger, but no one believes her. Meanwhile, Damrong travels to Bangkok for business and meets Natthaya, a widow with a daughter named Aimaree, slightly older than Meng. Natthaya seeks security and deliberately seduces Damrong, eventually becoming his mistress.
She then executes a series of schemes to take over his life. Pretending to be kind and pitiful in front of Buaban, she secretly torments her. Eventually, Buaban flees toward a mountain retreat she once visited with her family. Natthaya sabotages her car, making it appear as an accident. Buaban’s car plunges off a cliff, and she disappears without a trace.
With Buaban gone, Natthaya continues her plan to marry Damrong. La-ae warns him that Meng is also in danger, but he refuses to believe her. Natthaya pretends to love Meng in public, while secretly having her daughter bully the girl. Eventually, she abandons Meng deep in the forest, intending for her to die.
Lost and alone, Meng wanders through the jungle. At the same time, a boy named Phana, traveling with his parents, is separated from them after a train accident. The two children encounter each other near a cliff, but in a tragic moment, Meng falls. Miraculously, she survives by landing on a tree below.
A wounded mother monkey, who has just lost her baby to hunters, finds Meng and adopts her as her own. From then on, Meng grows up in the forest, raised by animals.
Ten years later, Meng becomes a wild yet beautiful young woman, though her appearance is rough and unkempt. She can communicate with animals and leads them to protect the forest from hunters and intruders. She deeply loves the forest, animals, and her monkey mother.
Meanwhile, various threats emerge—hunters, traffickers, and a mafia group searching for a valuable pink diamond lost in the forest. Many who glimpse Meng are fascinated and try to capture her, believing she is a mysterious creature.
Phana, now older, frequently returns to the forest—not to find the diamond, but to search for the girl he once tried to save. The two eventually reunite, though Meng does not initially recognize him. Over time, they form a bond, and Phana helps her learn human language and behavior.
Meng is later captured and forced into performing in shows, but she is rescued with the help of animals and Phana. Eventually, she enters the human world, where she is given a new name, Manawika. Her true identity is gradually revealed when Damrong recognizes clues, including a locket with her real name.
Natthaya and her daughter are exposed for their crimes and imprisoned. Meng is reunited with her father and returns to live with him, though she still longs for the forest and her monkey mother.
In the end, Meng chooses to study forestry and dedicates her life to protecting nature. She and Phana plan a future together, committed to preserving forests, wildlife, and natural ecosystems—because the forest is life itself.
The story concludes with harmony between humans and nature, as Meng continues to bridge both worlds, living alongside her loved ones and the forest she cherishes.
