Synopsis
A tragic love between a young soldier and a girl from the North. Second Lieutenant Phrom, a southerner, is transferred to serve in Chiang Mai, where he falls in love with Khruea Fa, a Chiang Mai dancer and daughter of a mahout. They grow fond of each other, as Phrom likes having Khruea Fa take him on forest outings. The two live together as husband and wife for a short time and have a son named Daeng. Later, World War I breaks out; Siam joins the Allies and calls for volunteers to fight in Europe. When the news reaches Chiang Mai, Second Lieutenant Phrom is ordered back to Bangkok and volunteers to go to war. Before parting, they bid a loving, tearful farewell, and Phrom promises to return to Khruea Fa soon. But misfortune strikes when his plane crashes and he is injured.
Phrom returns to Thailand with amnesia and is graciously promoted to Major General with the noble title Luang Narongrak Saksongkhram. His relatives force him to marry Champa, a lady of good family. On the day Luang Narongrak must perform a flying demonstration in Chiang Mai, he feels a sense of déjà vu, as if he has been there before. Khruea Fa, hearing that her husband is coming to Chiang Mai, goes to welcome him with joy, only to be heartbroken when she sees Second Lieutenant Phrom bringing Champa, his lawful wife. To make matters worse, Champa scorns and belittles her. Overwhelmed with grief, Khruea Fa stabs herself to death, her heart shattered.
