Long Thang (Going Astray)

The first Thai sound film.

This is the story of Sawaeng, a young farmer who lives happily with his family. Everything changes when he must travel to the city to buy agricultural tools. He stays with his dear friend Chamnong, who lives in Phra Nakhon (Bangkok), and it is Chamnong who introduces him to Fongsawat, a beautiful woman coveted by many young men. Sawaeng, too, falls under Fongsawat’s spell, forgetting his family and openly living with her in the capital. But will this bring Sawaeng lasting happiness? Time will tell.

Sawaeng is married to Yodming, and they have one child named Yodkhwan. He earns his living as a farmer. One day, Sawaeng must travel to Phra Nakhon to purchase tools for his work and stays with his close friend Chamnong, who lives there. Chamnong introduces Sawaeng to Fongsawat, who is desired by young men across the city. Sawaeng becomes utterly infatuated with Fongsawat, to the point of abandoning farming to work in Phra Nakhon, and he brings Fongsawat to live with him openly. Fongsawat spends extravagantly, and before long Sawaeng runs out of money, prompting Fongsawat to distance herself from him. Sawaeng loses his job and is plunged into deep misery, which makes him think of Yodming, who once supported him. He returns to the countryside to find his beloved wife, who has been waiting for him there.
