Synopsis
District Chief Krek has served the government with honesty and integrity for over 30 years. However, his reputation is tarnished when he is arrested on charges of accepting bribes to help illegal immigrants enter the country. Everyone in Tha Phanom Phrai District knows that Chief Krek was framed, but no one dares to help or testify for him. They fear the influence of Phor Yai Loy, a powerful mafia boss who wants to eliminate Chief Krek because he obstructed Phor Yai Loy's illegal businesses, including drug trafficking and human smuggling.
Dr. Jet is the new District Chief sent to replace Krek. He receives orders from his superiors to secretly investigate and bring justice to Chief Krek, while also dismantling Phor Yai Loy's criminal empire.
Jet moves into Chief Krek's old house, where Uncle Chat, the district janitor, and his precocious daughter Tang-On take care of cooking and cleaning. Tang-On frequently flirts with Jet, hoping to become the District Chief's wife. Annoyed, Jet asks Uncle Chat to find a male servant to work at the house to keep Tang-On away.
Uncle Chat finds Ai Yang, a young wanderer looking for work, and brings him to meet Jet. Upon their first eye contact, Jet feels he has met Ai Yang before. However, Yang denies it, claiming to be from Kalasin and speaking rapid-fire Isan dialect to prove it. In reality, Ai Yang had met Jet before at the Ministry in Bangkok. Yang has to hide his identity because back then, he was a young woman named Salinada, who was seeking justice for her father, Chief Krek.
When Tang-On meets Yang, she is struck by his handsomeness and cuteness, immediately shifting her target from Jet to Yang. Yang tries to avoid her, fearing she might discover his true gender, but Tang-On clings to him and declares herself his new girlfriend.
Upon starting work at the district office, Jet realizes that all officials accept bribes from Phor Yai Loy, leading them to disrespect him. Jet overhauls the work system, angering the staff, especially Chaiyant, a deputy district officer who is always late or absent to serve Phor Yai Loy. Chaiyant tries to challenge Jet, asserting that one must bow to Phor Yai Loy to survive in this district. Jet shows he doesn't care about influence by disciplining Chaiyant first, transferring him to a lower position. Chaiyant is furious but helpless against his superior, harboring a grudge.
Jet secretly investigates Krek's case with the help of Sukhum, an old friend working as a journalist. Yang overhears Jet discussing Krek with Sukhum and is overjoyed that someone is helping her father. Yang tells Jet to find Pong, the younger brother of Sali (Phor Yai Loy's mistress), as Pong is the only key witness who knows Krek is innocent. Surprised by Yang's detailed knowledge, Jet asks how he knows. Yang lies that he is Krek's illegitimate son and begs Jet not to tell anyone to protect Krek's reputation. Jet arranges to meet Pong, but Phor Yai Loy's men kill Pong before the meeting. Yang is devastated, as Pong was the only hope. Seeing Yang's despair, Jet promises to jail Phor Yai Loy and clear Krek's name. Yang hugs Jet in gratitude and admiration. Jet is stunned by the embrace, his heart pounding for no reason he can explain.
Yang advises Jet to investigate Phor Yai Loy through his only daughter, Yodying, who has liked Jet since she first saw him. Jet's politeness, looks, and education make Yodying believe he is her perfect man. This infuriates Chaiyant, who has been trying to woo her unsuccessfully. Jet starts visiting Yodying often to get close to her father. However, the cautious Phor Yai Loy keeps Jet away from his illegal business, leaving Jet with no evidence.
Yang becomes Jet's full-time assistant in tracking Phor Yai Loy's activities. Their closeness makes Yang fall deeply in love with him. Jet also feels shaken whenever he is near Yang but suppresses his feelings, believing Yang is a man. He tries to distance himself to avoid gossip about being gay, but the more he pulls away, the more he yearns for Yang. Finally, he confesses his turmoil to Sukhum, who is shocked and tries to persuade Jet to see a psychiatrist.
Eventually, Jet cannot deny his love for Yang. He confesses to "him" and says he is ready to face society and even pay for Yang's gender reassignment surgery. Yang smiles at the misunderstanding but cannot reveal her true identity yet.
Jet discovers Chaiyant and district officials are forging alien ID cards. He interrogates them to implicate the mastermind, knowing it is Phor Yai Loy. Phor Yai Loy orders his men to silence Chaiyant. Chaiyant escapes and kidnaps Yodying. Jet rescues her and kills Chaiyant in the process. Grateful and convinced of Jet's love for his daughter, Phor Yai Loy offers Yodying's hand in marriage to Jet. Seeing a golden opportunity to get close to the mafia boss, Jet agrees. Yang is heartbroken, fearing Jet will stop loving her, but Jet promises the marriage is in name only and his heart belongs to Yang.
After the marriage, Jet becomes the trusted son-in-law and gains access to the family's illegal business. The day Jet and Yang have waited for arrives when Phor Yai Loy arranges a major drug delivery. Jet leads a raid. Phor Yai Loy resists arrest and is killed. Devastated that her love for a man led to her father's death, Yodying commits suicide. Jet feels guilty for using her, but Sukhum reminds him he did it for the country as a civil servant.
Chief Krek is released and cleared of all charges. Yang rushes to hug her parents in joy. At that moment, Jet realizes the truth: "Ai Yang" is actually Salinada, Krek's daughter, who disguised herself as a boy to deceive him. Furious at being lied to, Jet refuses to listen to her explanations and chases her away. However, realizing love is more important than pride, Jet eventually swallows his anger and goes to reconcile with her.
