Synopsis
Tangsa (Sirilak Pongchoke) is a beautiful young woman from Isan. A fighter at heart, she is diligent and patient, helping her mother sell papaya salad (Som Tum) to support her siblings. Tangsa is a skilled cook with a large following of loyal customers.
When the provincial Som Tum competition arrives, Tangsa gives it her all, hoping to win the grand prize: a free permanent stall in the market. However, her dreams are shattered when the judges award the title to Chaba (Suwatjanee Chaimusik), her bitter rival. Tangsa is furious with Ar-Chi, also known as Chatchanok (Aphinan Prasertwattanakul), one of the judges. She believes his inability to eat spicy food led to a reckless decision that handed Chaba the victory. After the event, Tangsa teaches them both a lesson by splashing fermented fish sauce (Pla Ra) on Chaba and Ar-Chi.
Tangsa and her younger siblings, Buajan (Monchaya Srisawat) and Kamla (Satchakard Chitpuengtham), return home exhausted only to find their mother, Sai (Ampha Phoosit), battered and in pain after being beaten by their stepfather, Kam (Sucheao Pongwilai). While Kamla runs to get a doctor, a drunken Kam returns and attacks Tangsa and Sai again. When he attempts to assault Tangsa, Sai stabs him with a knife, but Kam stabs her back, killing her before fleeing.
With her mother gone, Tangsa commits herself to working hard to put her siblings through school. However, her eldest sister, Samriang (Na Hathai Phichitra), betrays them by stealing their savings and rent money to run away to Bangkok with her husband, Han (Jojo Louis Maiocchi). Left with no choice, Tangsa and her siblings track Samriang down at Han’s house. Tangsa forces them to let her stay by threatening to call Samriang’s creditors. Samriang reluctantly agrees but secretly plots against her.
In Bangkok, Tangsa searches for a place to sell Som Tum and finds a spot owned by Hea Ped (Krit Atthaseri), currently rented by Amy (Kamol Phuwanatwanich) and Nampor (Puttachat Pongsuchat). The shop happens to share a fence with Ar-Chi’s house. After a quarrel with Ar-Chi and poor sales, Amy decides to give up the lease. Tangsa asks Han—who works for Hea Ped—to help her secure the spot. Hea Ped agrees, secretly hoping to win Tangsa’s affections.
When sales remain slow, Tangsa moves her cart to the front of Ar-Chi’s factory. Her skills shine, and business booms. Ar-Chi’s sister, Meihua (Sanantharn Rakalongkot), becomes a regular customer, often ordering food for their home. Even Ar-Chi’s mother, Amma (Doungjai Hataikarn), loves Tangsa’s cooking.
As Tangsa’s shop becomes crowded with customers, she no longer needs to sell at the factory gates. Ar-Chi, however, remains bitter over a past prank where Tangsa made his Som Tum so spicy it gave him diarrhea. Out of spite, Ar-Chi forbids his factory workers from eating at her shop. This enrages Yod (Klerk Schiller), the foreman who is courting Tangsa. He leads a labor strike for higher wages. Ar-Chi is forced to mediate, and the workers' final demand is the right to eat at Tangsa’s shop. Ar-Chi finally realizes Tangsa is the heart of the conflict.
Meanwhile, Samriang and Han plot to "deliver" Tangsa to Hea Ped. Tangsa is drugged at a karaoke bar and nearly falls victim to him, but Ar-Chi and his friends, Krai (Danny Sripinyo) and Pakee (Suraphan Chaopaknam), rescue her just in time. This causes Tangsa to see Ar-Chi in a better light. When Hea Ped’s jealous wife, Jae Juang (Janya Thanasawangkul), arrives to trash Tangsa’s shop, Ar-Chi intervenes and explains the truth to her, leading Jae Juang to back down.
Ar-Chi’s relationship with his socialite girlfriend, Yodprathana (May Fuangarom), begins to fray. She is materialistic and loves high-society events hosted by her mother, Khun Toonhua (Duangta Tungkamanee). Ar-Chi finds himself forced into a lifestyle he hates. After a major argument, a drunken Ar-Chi is comforted by Tangsa. Her wisdom impresses him, leading him to reconcile with Yodprathana. As Ar-Chi and Tangsa grow closer, Ar-Chi begins confiding his problems to her.
Jealousy flares when Yodprathana sees them together. Tangsa tries to distance herself, both to avoid being a homewrecker and to hide her own growing feelings for Ar-Chi. Simultaneously, Kamla and Meihua fall in love at university. Ar-Chi tries to forbid their relationship, but Meihua remains defiant.
The rivalry continues as Chaba moves to Bangkok to work as a singer in Jae Juang’s pub. She becomes Hea Ped’s mistress for his money and influence, while also having an affair with Han. When Hea Ped pressures Tangsa over her shop lease and her siblings continue to sabotage her, Tangsa quits and seeks Ar-Chi's help to sell food in front of his factory again.
Ar-Chi becomes torn between his feelings for Tangsa and his duty to marry someone of high status to uphold his family's reputation. Eventually, he chooses society's expectations and marries Yodprathana, leaving Tangsa heartbroken.
Drama escalates when Jae Juang catches Hea Ped with Chaba. In the ensuing confrontation, Jae Juang falls down the stairs and becomes paralyzed. Chaba, pregnant with Han’s child, tries to make Han take responsibility, but he refuses out of fear of Samriang. Chaba then frames Kamla as the father. Heartbroken, Meihua distances herself while a guilt-ridden Kamla turns to alcohol. However, Tangsa notices the suspicious intimacy between Chaba and Han. Eventually, Samriang discovers the truth and threatens them both at gunpoint. Han flees with Chaba and the baby.
Ar-Chi’s marriage quickly sours as Yodprathana focuses only on her mother’s business and spends millions of his money. Ar-Chi continues to pursue Tangsa at the pub where she now works. Enraged by Ar-Chi’s interference, Hea Ped sends a gunman to kill him. Ar-Chi is shot in the leg; the injury is minor, but he pretends to be paralyzed to test the hearts of the two women.
Yodprathana immediately grows distant, eventually demanding a divorce. Tangsa, however, stays by his side and cares for him devotedly. When Ar-Chi finally reveals he can walk and confesses his love, Tangsa is hurt by the long-term deception and refuses to see him.
