Forty years ago, in the village of Bang Pleng on the night of the full moon during the Loy Krathong festival, Praphan asked Kaew to marry him under the night sky. At that very moment, a strange phenomenon occurred: a massive halo surrounded the moon, and every living thing in Bang Pleng was frozen in time by a mysterious power for four minutes.
The only person unaffected was Pranom, Praphan’s mother, who happened to be outside the radius and witnessed the eerie stillness. When everyone regained consciousness, life seemed to return to normal as if nothing had happened.
A month later, Praphan left for work in Phang Nga. However, two months after the incident, more than 200 women in Bang Pleng—ranging from young girls and widows to elderly nuns, including Kaew herself—all discovered they were pregnant at the same time. Luang Phor Toem, the abbot of Bang Pleng Temple, sensed a looming catastrophe, realizing that these infants were not of this world, but were "children from the abyss" bringing an approaching doom.
