Synopsis
In the rice fields of Isan, where the sound of the phin (a traditional Thai lute) echoes every evening, Yong, a simple young man who is hardworking and devoted to his family, lives a modest life with his little sister, Yim, who dreams of becoming a mor lam dancer at least once in her life.
But fate takes a cruel turn when Yim falls seriously ill and requires a large sum of money for treatment. Determined to save her, Yong is willing to do anything—even stepping into a world he never imagined: the mor lam stage of Rabieb Wathasilp.
From a som tam vendor, he becomes an amateur dancer in a legendary mor lam troupe. There, he meets Por Ae, the experienced troupe leader; Kru Ann, a dance teacher devoted to preserving traditional art; and Paula, a half-Thai designer who wants to modernize mor lam performances.
The clash between tradition and modern ideas creates tension, but Yong sees the value in both sides. He tries to become a bridge that keeps mor lam alive without losing its soul.
Along the way, he learns that dancing is not just about movement—it is about telling the stories of Isan people. And every drop of sweat is a promise he made to his sister: that he will dance his way to her dream.
Ai Taow Ao Wan is a heartwarming film about dreams, gratitude, and staying true to one’s roots. Because even as mor lam evolves with time, its heart continues to beat just the same.
