By the Time It Gets Dark

This is a story about people whose lives are intertwined, both directly and indirectly: a female film director and an elderly female writer who inspires her; a young café worker who keeps changing jobs and moving from province to province; and a pair of actors who may—or may not—be a couple off-screen. Their lives are delicately connected by almost invisible threads. Gradually, each person’s story is peeled back layer by layer, revealing the complexity of the many elements that make up human life.
The filmmaker interviews survivors of the 1976 Thammasat University massacre in a uniquely unconventional drama that blurs the line between history and memory.
As the female director brings a political activist from the October 6th incident back to revisit that nightmare, they are surrounded by the stories of a waitress, a singer, actors, and many others. Together, these narratives form a hazy blend of fiction, reality, and memories of a history that was never officially recorded.
