Synopsis

During the reign of King Uthumphon of Ayutthaya, Burmese forces began their invasion, eventually reaching Ban Paeng and Hua Khu. Phraya Kosa Thibadi (the Minister of Treasury) and Princess Suchawadi were ordered to find Luang Ta Thammakhong to discuss hiding treasures beneath the four-sided pagoda of Wat Thung, the village's central temple.
Luang Ta Thammakhong once had two primary disciples: Phloeng and Klong. Klong was envious of Phloeng for marrying Sabai, so he conspired with his father, Kamnan Thoem, to frame Phloeng, forcing him to flee and hide in the forest. While Phraya Kosa was searching for the monk, his party was ambushed by Burmese soldiers intent on seizing the treasure. Fortunately, Phloeng happened upon the scene and rescued them. Upon learning of Phraya Kosa's mission, Phloeng volunteered to act as their guide.
During the consultation between Phraya Kosa and Luang Ta Thammakhong, a guard reported that Princess Suchada had been kidnapped. While Phloeng was dueling with one of the enemies, the Princess shouted for him to stop, recognizing the man as Luang Saenyanarong—Phraya Kosa's own son. It was soon revealed that he was acting as a spy for the Burmese.
As the Burmese forces drew closer to the village, Phloeng sent his right-hand man, Tia, to alert the villagers to prepare for a dawn raid on the enemy camp. Phloeng planned to infiltrate the camp early to rescue Luang Ta Thammakhong, Phraya Kosa, and Sabai, unaware that all three had already been tortured to death. Upon entering the camp, Phloeng was immediately taken prisoner.
That night, Khun Phayakphum, a noble warrior of Ayutthaya, arrived to rescue Phloeng. At dawn, Tia led the villagers in a fierce assault, driving the Burmese back to the four-sided pagoda of Wat Thung. At that exact moment, the Burmese commanders Ui Tong and Ma Mangcha were inside an underground tunnel attempting to steal the treasure. Suddenly, an earthquake struck, causing the pagoda to collapse and crush both commanders to death. Peace finally returned to Ban Paeng and Hua Khu once again.
