"Dok Son Chu" (The Last Memory) is a tragic love story set between 1935 (three years after the Siamese Revolution) and 1944 (during World War II or the Greater East Asia War). The story reflects Thai society and culture during a time when the country was striving for "civilization" and Westernization, yet traditional values still heavily influenced daily life. Gender rights were starkly unequal; men could legitimately have multiple wives and be praised for it, while women were stripped of rights. If a woman committed adultery, she faced severe punishment and social condemnation.

The drama exposes the darkest corners of the human heart—unending desire, lust, and greed that blind people, leading to jealousy, conflict, and a battle for supremacy as violent as the war raging outside.

The Story:

In 1935, in a small village in Ban Phaeo, Samut Sakhon, Dok Kaew, a 20-year-old fresh sugar palm vendor, lives a simple life. After selling her goods along the Damnoen Saduak Canal, she often sneaks away to meet Nirundon, a handsome young man she has loved for years. However, her mother, Mrs. Laem—a heavy drinker and compulsive gambler—tears her away from her poor lover. To pay off gambling debts, Laem sells Dok Kaew to become the third wife of Luang Pakorn Ratchakit, a wealthy government official in Bangkok.

Dok Kaew is forced to move to the Nopparat House on the banks of the Bangkok Noi Canal. She brings with her a tuberose flower (Dok Son Chu) from her hometown to plant in the compound. Luang Pakorn already has two wives: Khun Soithong and Khun Lamjiak, both from noble families. Surprisingly, they are kind to the country girl. Khun Lamjiak, gentle and fragile, takes Dok Kaew under her wing, teaching her etiquette and housework.

The household also includes Khun Theptai, a 17-year-old medical student at Siriraj Hospital. Though raised by Luang Pakorn and Soithong, he is actually the son of Soithong’s late brother. As Luang Pakorn brings Dok Kaew into high society, she transforms into a stunning socialite and skilled dancer. She becomes close to Theptai as she helps him navigate social events.

Later, Luang Pakorn takes a fourth wife, Saraphi, to boost his financial status. However, Saraphi is Theptai’s former lover, and her heart still belongs to him. Selfish and hostile, Saraphi clashes with everyone, even the gentle Lamjiak. Saraphi eventually bears a son named Sarapat, while Dok Kaew has a daughter named Kingfa. Luang Pakorn, valuing sons over daughters for lineage, pays little attention to Dok Kaew and her child.

The dynamic shifts when Khun Lamjiak becomes pregnant. A prophecy states her son will be a great man, causing Luang Pakorn to dote on her again. Consumed by jealousy, Saraphi conspires with her servant to frame Lamjiak, claiming the child belongs to a rickshaw puller. Tragedy strikes when Lamjiak’s servant is killed by lightning. Luang Pakorn, believing the lies, brutally beats the pregnant Lamjiak until she miscarries and loses her mind.

Dok Kaew takes over the household duties. Hoping to see Theptai settle down, she introduces him to Mom Luang Ratsami Dara, a noblewoman. They become engaged, fueling Saraphi’s rage. On the night of the engagement, Saraphi attacks Dok Kaew, causing severe head trauma. Dok Kaew suffers amnesia, forgetting her life at Nopparat House—her husband, her child, everything. Her memory reverts to her time in Ban Phaeo. In her confusion, she mistakes Theptai for her old lover, Nirundon, begging him to take her home and showing him affection as she would her lover.

On Theptai’s wedding day (which Dok Kaew had arranged before her injury), she goes into a frenzy, destroying the ceremony and attacking the bride. Humiliated, Luang Pakorn chains and imprisons her.

By 1944, amidst the chaos of WWII, peace in the house is nonexistent. Luang Pakorn tortures Dok Kaew, believing Saraphi’s lies that she committed adultery. Meanwhile, he shamelessly takes a young servant, Pudjeeb, as yet another wife. The patriarch uses his power and male privilege to judge everyone irrationally. His wives—all named after flowers—wither under his rule. By the time he realizes who is good and who is evil, it is too late.

During the massive bombing of Bangkok Noi on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month in 1944, innocent lives end amidst false accusations. Amidst the scent of the white tuberose blooming in the heat of war, Dok Kaew’s pure love blooms and withers in the blink of an eye.

Tai La, a vast cluster of traditional Thai houses resembling a kingdom, belongs to Nai Saen (Somchai Kemglad), a wealthy merchant. He has possessed great wealth from trading with foreigners since the early era when merchant ships from Europe first entered Siam. Nai Saen visited a brothel where he met Bu-nga (Pakkaramai Potranan), the star courtesan. Nai Saen fell in love with her and redeemed her to openly take her as his wife, causing immense displeasure to Nang Kaew.

In the past, the Mahejakra family was a grand and wealthy noble house, rich in rank and fortune. However, what people spoke of most was Fuang, the only daughter of Phraya Arak and Khun Ying Sriruan. Her beauty was renowned far and wide, incomparable in appearance, status, and title. She was a woman who possessed everything any woman could desire.

She was betrothed to Pan, the son of a wealthy tycoon with equal status and looks—a match seemingly made in heaven. The wedding was approaching... but a secret was hidden that no one knew.

Fuang was in love with Chun, a man of Chinese descent who was merely an employee in a fabric shop. Their love had been kept secret, known only to Oun and Tubtim, Fuang’s nannies, who acted as spies for their secret meetings. As the wedding date drew nearer, Fuang and Chun grew anxious. One night, during a secret meeting, Fuang was caught by her father, Phraya Arak. In the dense forest, Chun and Fuang stumbled upon an abandoned temple near a cliff. Chun’s injuries from being stabbed by Pan worsened. Realizing he might have to return Fuang to Pan, Chun refused to give up. He asked Fuang to make a vow: if they could not be together in this life, they would follow each other in love across every lifetime forever! After the vow, Chun tied the other end of the chain to his own ankle and jumped off the cliff, committing suicide along with Fuang.

But then, the unexpected happened. Fuang died, but Chun survived!! Chun lost consciousness until Nuan and Hunter Mee, who were foraging in the forest, found and rescued him. Fuang entered the realm of death alone, without her lover. Seeing her body separated from his with longing, her spirit followed Chun. This event led Nuan to meet Chun. Eventually, Chun escaped and attempted to jump off the cliff again. On the way, he met a wandering monk who, through meditation, foresaw Chun's thoughts and taught him until he came to his senses and no longer sought death.

Chetawan is the reincarnation of Chun. Along with Sit (or Sing in the past), his buddy, they go trekking in the forest with friends and get lost, stumbling upon the abandoned temple (where Chun and Fuang made their vow before dying). This disturbs Fuang’s spirit. When Fuang sees Chetawan, she is overjoyed and follows him to the capital city.

Net-apsorn (or Nuan in her past life) is disappointed by fate after failing to become a nurse. However, she receives a job offer to care for a young, wealthy patient who requires 24-hour nursing care. Net decides to accept the job as a private nurse for a tycoon suffering from a strange condition: his heart stops beating when he sleeps, requiring a ventilator at all times. This tycoon is a playboy.

When Net becomes Chetawan's nurse, all the resentment Nuan held in the past resurfaces immediately. One night after a heavy celebration, a drunken Chetawan returns home. In his stupor, he forces himself on Net. She fights back, refusing him, and decides to quit her job and leave his life.

Net’s actions make him reflect. She makes him realize the value of a woman for the first time. Chetawan tries to contact Net through Doctor Kong, Paramee, and Thip to apologize. Furthermore, he abandons his Casanova ways. Chetawan’s transformation surprises everyone around him. However, the more Chetawan tries to be good to Net, the more Fuang tries to harm her.

One day, Fuang causes a car to crash into Net. In a split second of danger, Chetawan uses his body to protect Net, leaving him critically injured and in a coma (a sleeping prince). Net is deeply moved by what Chetawan did for her and decides to open her heart to love him, willing to do anything for him to wake up again.

When Paramee, Doctor Kong, and Thip learn that their dear friend Net is in trouble, they invite her to practice dharma to extend Chetawan's life for 7 days at a retreat center run by Khun Suang (or Khun Ying Sriruan in her past life). In meditation, Khun Suang sees Fuang’s spirit staring with intent to harm Net. She begs Fuang to let go of Chetawan and Net so she can be reborn, but Fuang refuses to listen to her past-life mother. Khun Suang tries to make merit and dedicate it to Fuang, hoping she will find peace, but fueled by vengeance, Fuang refuses to accept any merit.

Fuang’s spirit meets Chetawan again. She tries to take him back to the spot where they jumped off the cliff together, hoping he will commit suicide again to be with her. But out of pity and realizing that he was the one who created this karma, he decides he must end this matter himself...

Will Net-apsorn’s love for Chetawan be fulfilled? Or will she lose to the venomous love and vengeful force of Fuang in this lifetime?
