Parames (Santisuk Promsiri), a wealthy landowner and owner of a suburban mansion, brings Chawee (Mint - Minthita Wattanakul) into his home as a new wife. This displeases his two existing wives, Pen (Paweena Chariffsakul) and Lada (Panadda Wongphudee). Chawee brought a small, beautifully patterned chest with her. Lada, wanting to see what was inside, fights her for it but is disappointed to find only an old piece of woven fabric.

Parames is infatuated with his new wife, even allowing her to live in the main building. Dissatisfied, Lada uses black magic to harm Chawee, unaware that Chawee possesses sorcery skills passed down from her mother, Grandma Chan. This creates the "Mon Jetaphut" (The Mantra of the Astral Spirit). Chawee retaliates against Lada with black magic to teach her a lesson. Furious, Lada declares herself Chawee's enemy. However, Chawee does not neglect to try and harm Pen, Parames's first wife, as well. She cannot fully succeed because Pen possesses an ancient silver hairpin, hundreds of years old, given to her by a wandering monk for protection.

Pen has a son named Wongmuang (Por AF7 - Unnop Thongborisut), while Lada has a son and daughter named Lertnara (James AF8 - Supawit Bunkasem) and Rungmanee (Natty AF7 - Thanyanan Pipatchaisiri). Lada sends her children to live with her stepmother in the province. Parames is very upset that Lada has taken his children away from him. Later, Pen is attacked by Chawee until she has to flee to live with her parents in Bangkok. However, Chawee continues to use black magic until Pen's mother dies. Pen's father flees to become a monk. Pen decides to send Wongmuang to live with a friend in America and lives a quiet life in a small temple in Chiang Mai.

Having lost all his children, Parames is distressed and lonely. Chawee teaches him the Mon Jetaphut, involving summoning the astral spirits (Jetaphut) from other people's bodies and imprisoning them in glass jars. He projects his own astral spirit to travel to various places. He becomes obsessed with the dark arts Chawee taught him. The Mon Jetaphut calls the spirit out of a person's body to imprison it; the victim dies immediately because the spirit cannot return to the body. Locals believe these deaths are "Lai Tai" (Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome), but it remains a puzzle for Lieutenant Phichitchai (A - Phattarabut Kiennukul), the young police officer in charge of the case. He tries to find information. The person who truly knows the story is Uncle On (Si Lord Si Sai), the village temple undertaker. Uncle On once studied the Mon Jetaphut but turned his back on it long ago.

Wongmuang grows up to be a handsome and famous painter, dating a Thai girl named Pinnaree (Mean - Sarunthorn Klaiudom), a photographer. Wongmuang is introverted and sometimes depressed, as if always worried about something. Pinnaree tries to find the cause of her lover's behavior. Later, Wongmuang returns to Thailand. He finds that his grandparents' house in Bangkok has been sold. Not knowing where his mother is, he decides to return to the suburban mansion he left in childhood. Before reaching the mansion, he meets Uncle On, who warns him to be careful but gives no details.

Parames is overjoyed that his son has returned. Seeing an opportunity, Lada brings Lertnara and Rungmanee back to live in the mansion. Chawee fears Parames will be so enamored with his children that he will neglect her black magic. Grandma Chan tells Chawee a secret about the Mon Jetaphut: if the spirits Parames has extracted ever combine, they will become the "Lord of Spirits" (Chao Jetaphut), a terrifying and uncontrollable monster. Chawee begins to feel afraid, but at the same time, she plans to make Wongmuang the "vessel" for the Lord of Spirits.

What Chawee predicted comes to pass. The glass jars imprisoning the spirits fall and break. Parames dies. Many spirits combine to form the Lord of Spirits and use Wongmuang as a vessel. Every full moon night, Wongmuang loses control of himself and goes out to hunt the spirits of others. Uncle On knows the young man's fate and tries to confine Wongmuang to prevent him from harming others, but he is not always successful. Wongmuang's behavior makes him a suspect in Phichitchai's eyes.

Pinnaree searches for Wongmuang but cannot find him until she organizes a photography exhibition with her friend Rarin (Ice AF9 - Phatarapasorn Chayanannithi) as an assistant. This exhibition leads Wongmuang to her, as well as Phichitchai, who falls for Pinnaree at first sight, unaware that Rarin secretly likes him. Pinnaree takes a photo of Wongmuang. When developed, she sees a shadow overlapping Wongmuang's body. Rarin suggests Pinnaree consult a monk in Chiang Mai, at the temple where Pen is practicing dharma. The abbot says Pinnaree's lover is facing karma and danger, but her merit can save him. Pen bids farewell to the abbot and asks to follow Pinnaree as a servant at her home, coinciding with the time Pinnaree's parents, Petch and Praphan, need a servant.

Pen is happy to be near Pinnaree as it means she will get news of her son. Meanwhile, Wongmuang is suffering; he hates and fears full moon nights without knowing why. Uncle On is his only friend and comfort. Pinnaree visits the mansion. Chawee dislikes her intensely and tries to harm her. When Chawee discovers Lertnara trying to violate Pinnaree, she creates a diversion by projecting a spirit disguised as Lertnara to attack Pinnaree. However, Pinnaree uses the silver hairpin given by Pen to stab "Lertnara." It turns out to be Chawee who is injured; the bleeding cannot be stopped, and she dies. Grandma Chan, furious for her daughter, takes Chawee's spirit to Chong, a sorcerer from the same sect. Chong takes Chawee's ghost as his wife. Ghost Chawee, vengeful, tries to harm Pinnaree in every way possible.

Pinnaree moves in with Wongmuang. She accepts the gossip and her parents' sorrow, believing love will shield her lover from danger. Pinnaree's presence at the mansion brings Phichitchai there often, causing Rungmanee, who loves Phichitchai, to dislike Pinnaree even more.

Finally, Pinnaree finds the chest containing the woven fabric, the source of the mysteries. She shows the fabric to Rarin. Rarin takes her to a medium and a textile expert. The expert opines the cloth is hundreds of years old, likely from Khmer origins, and is a shroud for high-ranking nobility. The medium tells her to keep it safe; this cloth can save everyone's lives. If used to cover the body of the person possessed by the Lord of Spirits, the entity will not be able to withstand it. The medium asks Pinnaree to practice dharma to save Wongmuang's life.

Eventually, Pen comes to the mansion. Wongmuang is overjoyed to see his mother, but Lada is displeased because after Parames's death, the mansion fell to Wongmuang. She wants it for Lertnara. With Chawee dead, obstacles were fewer, but Pen's arrival complicates Lada's desires. Lada harasses Pen in various ways, but Pen endures it to help her son because if anything happens to Wongmuang, the mansion and all assets will go to Lada's children.

Lada conspires with Phichitchai to arrest Wongmuang as a murderer, but there is no clear evidence. Pen tries to explain, but Lada ignores her, wanting to expose the secret of Wongmuang's strange behavior on full moon nights.

Pen believes the silver hairpin and the merit she has accumulated all her life will save her son. On the full moon night, Pinnaree returns home to bring the woven cloth and the chest she hid in her room to the mansion and tells the whole truth to her parents. Petch and Praphan realize the love the young couple has for each other and agree to sacrifice everything. They come to the mansion to join Pen in meditation to create power.

That night, Wongmuang is possessed by the Lord of Spirits. Pinnaree, Pen, Praphan, Petch, and the medium successfully cover Wongmuang with the woven cloth. The Lord of Spirits leaves his body. By morning, everyone thinks the worst has passed, but Rungmanee screams. Everyone discovers that Chong has summoned the spirit from Rungmanee's body to imprison it, then used his own spirit to possess her body. Chong demands the woven cloth in exchange for Rungmanee's spirit. He fails. Uncle On arrives at the mansion and uses the Mon Jetaphut art he had long abandoned to destroy Chong's spirit, killing him. Pinnaree's love for Wongmuang makes her willing to sacrifice everything for her lover, confident that even if he is the Lord of Spirits (Chao Jetaphut), he is not greater than being the "Owner of her Heart."
