Synopsis
Dok Khun Siang Khaen is a romantic musical drama set in Renu Nakhon, a land of mystique and tradition, where Phra That Phanom stands tall like a witness to love, golden dok khun blossoms fill the landscape, and the sounds of song, khaen, and phin blend together in haunting beauty.
At the heart of the story are Dok Khun (Luknam Thidarat Vongsili) and Khamron (Pluster Phornpipat Pattanasetthanon), two orphaned siblings who grow up in the Khaen Phin Din Isan mor lam troupe run by Pho Khai (Piya Trakulrat) and Mae Thap (Prisana Wongsiri). The couple also have two sons of their own: Khaenthong (Toomtam Yuthana Puengklang) and Monphin (Tao Phusilp Warinrak).
The four children grow up together, and both Khaenthong and Monphin take very good care of Dok Khun. But over time, their closeness leads both young men to fall in love with her. Whenever the troupe performs, Dok Khun sings duets with Khaenthong, while Monphin accompanies them on the phin, helping create deeply moving performances that audiences and employers adore.
Because of her striking beauty, Dok Khun also attracts the attention of Mai (Mangmoom Kitipat Rattanaseni), the village headman’s son, who wants to make her his wife. But Khaenthong always steps in to protect her. The same is true of Songkhro (A Phattharabut Khiannukul), a foreign-educated young man who is immediately impressed by Dok Khun’s performance and beauty. As he grows closer to her, Khaenthong becomes increasingly unhappy and tries to keep the two apart.
Then disaster strikes: the Khaen Phin Din Isan troupe is forced to disband. Songkhro helps Dok Khun and Khaenthong escape the darkness surrounding them and take refuge in Bangkok. There, Khaenthong becomes a boxer, working hard to earn money and build a future so he can take care of Dok Khun. Songkhro, meanwhile, helps Dok Khun audition to become a singer. But Thita (Aom Kanphitcha Ketmanee), Songkhro’s former lover, constantly harasses her.
When Songkhro learns of this, he pities Dok Khun and wants to protect her, so he asks her to become engaged to him. At first Dok Khun refuses, but Songkhro offers her something in return, and in the end she agrees to the engagement. When Khaenthong finds out, he is heartbroken and tries to take Dok Khun back to Nakhon Phanom. But despite her pain, Dok Khun forces herself not to go with him.
After returning to Nakhon Phanom, Khaenthong finds work with a well-known politician and eventually earns enough money to return to Bangkok, still worried about and longing for Dok Khun. When Dok Khun hears that he has come back, she is overjoyed and rushes to see him — only to find him with another woman. This leaves her deeply hurt.
So how will the love between Dok Khun and Khaenthong ultimately end?
And how will they overcome the many obstacles standing in the way of their true love?
