Synopsis
Due to extreme poverty and having six children, Boonlai (Apiradee Pawaputanont) forces Boonrod (Siraphan Wattanajinda) to drop out of school to work and support the family, just like her older sister, Boonlam (Kullanut Kulpriyawat). At the age of 16, Boonrod is sexually harassed by her employer, causing her to flee to live with Teacher Oraphin (Suang-suda Lawanprasert), working as a nanny for the teacher's youngest daughter, Noo Jeed.
During that time, Boonrod meets Jin (Saharat Hiranthanapuwadon), Teacher Oraphin's eldest son, who is younger than her. Jin always looks down on Boonrod. Boonrod serves Teacher Oraphin and her husband, Palad (Yuthapichai Charnlekha), for many years. This closeness makes Boonrod feel that Jin is the first man she loves. However, when Jin falls in love with Wichuda (Lanlalin Tejasa), the daughter of Governor Wat (Sathaporn Nakwilairoj) and Mrs. Kornkaew (Anjana Burananan), a suitable match, Boonrod feels heartbroken. She decides to leave Teacher Oraphin, who was like a second mother to her, to go her own way from that day forward.
In the year 1972, U-Tapao Airport is full of American soldiers stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Boonrod works at Khun Pom's (Kerk Chiller) restaurant in front of U-Tapao Airport. With her sharp tongue and flashy dressing style, Boonrod's reputation becomes renowned throughout U-Tapao.
Jay Phen (Pimpaka Siangsomboon), a veteran prostitute, brings Sunee (Laphasrada Chuay-kua), Khiao (Benjasiri Wattana), Julie (Thongthong Mokjok), and a group of younger prostitutes from a brothel in Bangkok to become "rented wives" (of American soldiers). Upon their first meeting, Boonrod and Sunee do not get along, leading to constant arguments because Sunee feels Boonrod is her life's rival. Boonrod declares that someone like her will never sell her body for survival. Boonrod meets Bob (Willy McIntosh), though Will (David Asavanond), Bob's friend, thinks Boonrod is a prostitute. After that day, Bob frequently visits the restaurant to get close to Boonrod. Bob admires that Boonrod makes a living with her own two hands.
Boonrod takes time off work to visit Teacher Oraphin as usual. Teacher Oraphin tells her about Jin and Wichuda, who made a mistake and got pregnant while still studying. Boonrod is heartbroken, feeling sorry for their futures, as one of them has to stop studying. On the other hand, she feels that Jin, the man of her dreams, is walking further and further away from her.
Because Mrs. Boonlai loves only her four sons—Boonto (Sira Paetrat), Boontham (Tanabodee Jaiyen), Boonsin (Kornkorn Tunkaew), and Boonting (Ninwaris Kittichaiwarangkul)—and constantly takes money from her daughters to gamble, both Boonlam, who works as a prostitute in Pattaya, and Boonrod feel neglected. Boonting gets a school-aged girl pregnant, leading the girl's parents to report him to the police. Fearing that Boonsin and Boontham will also turn out bad, Boonrod takes them to live with her. She makes Boonsin enroll in vocational school and has Boontham finish high school. Boonrod brings Boonsin to apprentice with a machine shop owner (Santi Santivejkun). There, Boonsin meets Muey (Yada Suwannapatana), the owner's beautiful daughter. Boonsin secretly admires the "sky flower" (unattainable woman) from that day on.
Jin and Wichuda, as new parents, cannot adapt to each other, leading to constant arguments. Everything gets worse when their child falls critically ill and dies after being alive for only a few months. They blame each other, leading to a final breakdown, and they decide to live apart. Boonrod takes Wichuda back to live with Teacher Oraphin.
When Bob volunteers to drive Boonrod back to the restaurant, Sunee seizes the opportunity to stir up trouble, making Khun Pom misunderstand, resulting in a huge argument. Boonrod declares her resignation from the restaurant. As soon as Bob finds out, he is very worried because he feels responsible. When he learns that Boonrod is thinking of finding a career selling baked goods, Bob doesn't hesitate to do everything to make amends. Meanwhile, Bob offers Boonsin a job at the base. Boonrod agrees because she doesn't want Boonsin to be disappointed if he continues to be close to Muey. Boonrod's bakery and made-to-order food business go well. She receives support from Teacher Muan, who taught her English when she first arrived at U-Tapao. Meanwhile, the closeness between Bob and Boonrod gradually develops from friendship into love. Boonrod takes her savings to buy a shophouse to establish a machine shop to disprove the slurs of those around her.
Seeing Boonrod's progress, Wichuda thinks about starting a new life. Boonrod tells her she must start by overcoming her own heart and going back to ask her parents for another chance. Wichuda decides to leave Teacher Oraphin and return home. When Jin learns that Wichuda has returned home, he feels heartbroken. Wichuda enrolls at Ramkhamhaeng University because she wants her parents to be proud that she has a degree. Mrs. Kornkaew asks Montri, the son of a close friend, to look after Wichuda, hoping her daughter will start a new life. Jin goes to find Boonrod to tell her the good news that he passed the exam to be a teacher. Jin's arrival makes Boonrod and Bob's love begin to waver. When Sunee learns that Boonrod is having problems with Bob, she plots to win Bob back to her. When Boonrod discovers that Bob went to see Sunee, she follows them. Sunee uses her feminine charms on Bob, making Boonrod unbearable. Bob chases after Boonrod to make amends, and the two pour out their feelings for each other.
Boonlam agrees to stay at the machine shop, asking to work as a housekeeper in exchange for room and board, just to know she still has value. Boonrod tells her that Boonlam has value to everyone. Meanwhile, the land that Boonto took to mortgage was seized because he didn't make payments, and Mrs. Boonlai still wastes money unnecessarily. Boonrod decides to sell her old house and lets her mother come to live with her. That becomes the starting point of family problems, but Boonrod has to harden her heart to do what she thinks is right, to prove that what she is doing is out of good intentions for her family, and that she wants everyone in the family to live comfortably.
Boonrod's fate reaches a major turning point when Bob is scheduled to transfer to Indonesia. Boonrod thinks harder when Boonsin says he is getting married to Muey because the father allowed it, but with the condition that Boonsin must come to help manage the business. Which way will Boonrod's fate go? Follow and cheer her on in the drama "Phu Ying Khon Nan Chue Boonrod", airing every Monday-Tuesday at 8:20 PM on One Channel.
