Synopsis
Poom is the sole heir of the Rattanabodin family, owners of the grand Rattanakhram Mansion. A handsome and wealthy Casanova, he has women falling for him left and right. He lives his life as a playboy until he receives an email from his parents, Pat and Saran, who are returning from expanding their export business in America. The email turns Poom’s world upside down—his parents have already chosen a bride for him.
Unwilling to be forced into an arranged marriage, Poom confesses the truth to his best friend, Pathai: he has a promise with his girlfriend, Duenchai, who is studying in England. They agreed to marry as soon as she returns. Pathai is heartbroken, as he secretly loves Duenchai, but he values his friend's happiness more. Pathai comes up with a plan to buy time for Poom: he will announce a search for a woman to play the role of a fake wife, pretending to be Duenchai until the real one returns.
Among the applicants, only one catches Pathai's eye, but Poom is disgusted when he sees her. She is a plain, bespectacled girl with no friends or family, named Yai (or "Grandma" as a nickname, though she is young).
Poom hires the girl with the strange name for an exorbitant fee and brings her into the house as "Duenchai," hoping she will win over his grandmother, Khun Ying Rattanabodin, to help block his parents' plans. Yai overhears everything, including Poom emphasizing that the only woman he loves and will marry is the real Duenchai. Yai feels insulted but endures the role because she actually knows the real Duenchai—they are close senior and junior friends. She agrees to the job easily because she wants Duenchai to marry Poom.
The time comes for Yai to face the legendary mother-in-law. When Saran returns to Thailand with her husband, she screams in horror upon meeting her "daughter-in-law." Yai is sharp-tongued and refuses to back down. Although Khun Ying Rattanabodin sides with Poom and "that Yai" (whom Saran calls a low-class daughter-in-law), Saran is relentless. She plans for Poom to meet Prakaifah, the woman she originally chose for him. With Poom’s flirtatious nature and Prakaifah’s hot allure, sparks fly instantly. Yai has to use every trick in the book to block Prakaifah and protect Poom’s heart for her "P'Duenchai."
Sajee, Poom’s cousin, invites the Rattanabodin family to her engagement party. Yai almost agrees to go, but when she learns that Sajee is engaged to Rapee Witchapat, she quickly finds an excuse to stay home. Poom is suspicious, but Yai feigns illness, so Saran eagerly takes Prakaifah instead. Yai is relieved her secret is safe—because in reality, "Yai" Mankaeow is actually Ramnari Witchapat, the daughter of Wirat, a wealthy tycoon from the South.
At Grandma’s birthday party, Saran humiliates Yai and elevates Prakaifah to stand beside Poom. Yai retreats in sadness, and Pathai comforts her. When Yai asks when the real Duenchai will return, Pathai says next week. Yai realizes her role in this play is ending. Poom, however, is conflicted. The closer the date of Duenchai’s return, the more he finds himself thinking only of Yai. When Yai tries to resign, Poom refuses, claiming Grandma loves her too much and asks to hire her as Grandma’s granddaughter instead. Yai angrily retorts that a woman like her cannot be bought with money.
Yai leaves the Rattanabodin house and rents a room. She runs into Sajee, who helps her reconnect with Rapee. Rapee is overjoyed and begs his sister to return home to their sick father. Yai (Ramnari) rushes back to care for him. Sajee and her mother, Jueajan, decide to teach the philandering Poom a lesson by not revealing Yai’s whereabouts. Poom is miserable, to the point where he can’t even look at Prakaifah.
When the real Duenchai returns, Prakaifah throws a tantrum. Saran is furious that her son lied about his temporary wife. Duenchai notices her lover has changed, but Poom denies it. She confides in Pathai that she won't marry a man who doesn't love her. Pathai tries to fix their relationship, but it only makes Poom realize how much he misses Yai. He searches for her but finds no trace of the "crazy Yai."
On the day of Yai’s engagement to Pasan, Poom crashes the event and kidnaps her, thanks to a tip-off from Sajee. Yai screams in the car as he drives her to the seaside house, "Baan Fang Chon," where Grandma is supposedly bedridden from grief over missing Yai. Poom and Yai almost reconcile, but Pasan arrives to take Yai back.
Meanwhile, Prakaifah tries to trap Poom by claiming she is pregnant. However, Poom is smart enough to show his mother evidence of Prakaifah dating several wealthy older men. He reveals Pathai’s investigation: Prakaifah’s family is going bankrupt and needs a rich son-in-law to save them. Furious at being duped, Saran storms into a social event and exposes Prakaifah’s family, shaming them so badly they want to disappear.
Finally, at a seaside wedding at Baan Fang Chon, Yai is dressed beautifully but looks sorrowful. It isn't until the groom walks the bride out that Yai realizes she has been tricked by everyone—just as she once tricked others. Duenchai is marrying Pathai, the man who has always loved only her. Poom grabs Yai, hugs her tight, and confesses that the "crazy Yai" is the only woman he yearns for. He whispers a proposal, and while Yai is too shy to answer, the reformed Casanova steals a kiss as a lifelong promise.
