Synopsis
Mon Rak Pleng Phi Bok (The Magic of the Ghost's Song)
The melodious sounds of singing echo, a haunting and goosebump-inducing lament from a singer who is no longer human. It is a chaotic, spine-chilling tale mixed with the rhythm of music and laughter, leading toward love and great fun.
The Tragedy of Karavek
For years, the Siang Wan Sathan Phrai Luk Thung band was famous throughout the countryside. However, one fateful day, Karavek Siang Wan, the band's superstar singer, suffered a horrific car accident while racing to reconcile with his beloved wife, Mukda. Their cars collided head-on, killing both instantly. Tragically, Karavek left this world without even getting to see the face of his daughter, Chorkhaew.
The Struggle of Sanaoh
Sanaoh Bang Rachan, the band’s founder who mentored Karavek to stardom, was devastated. With his main pillar gone, he struggled to keep the band afloat. To make matters worse, his close friend Soy Suphan betrayed him. Out of spite and greed, Soy embezzled the band's money, racked up massive debts in Sanaoh's name, and vanished, leaving Sanaoh bankrupt.
Soy’s hatred stemmed from a long-standing grudge; he felt oppressed by Sanaoh and was jealous that Sanaoh supported the love between Mukda and Karavek instead of him. Unbeknownst to Soy, Sanaoh did this because Soy was a chronic gambler. Eventually, Soy was caught by the police and sent to prison.
The Secret of Chorkhaew
Sanaoh fought to keep the band alive, motivated by Chorkhaew. In reality, Chorkhaew was not his biological daughter; Sanaoh had taken her in after his own newborn daughter passed away, keeping the truth hidden from everyone.
Chorkhaew was raised by Saiphin Warinchamrab, a former singer and dancer who acted as her mother and secret vocal coach. Chorkhaew proved to be a musical prodigy, but Sanaoh forbid her from performing, having promised Karavek that his daughter would never have to endure the hardships of a performer's life.
The Competition and New Rivals
Unable to resist her heart's desire, Chorkhaew disguised herself and went to Bangkok for a singing competition. She was accompanied by Kengkaj, an orphan Sanaoh raised like a son. Chorkhaew’s voice caught the attention of Singha, a young man recently returned from abroad and the son of Hia Nan, a music label owner.
Singha fell for Chorkhaew and wanted her as his star singer, but Chorkhaew fled back home, fearing her father would find out.
The Ghostly Intervention
As the band neared collapse, Kengkaj went to pray at Karavek’s statue. Karavek’s ghost, angry that Sanaoh was giving up, discovered he could possess Kengkaj. Though Kengkaj was a terrible singer naturally, when possessed by Karavek, he sang with divine beauty. Sanaoh, shocked by the sudden talent, renamed him Karavek Noi (Little Karavek) and decided to keep the band going.
However, the possession wasn't permanent. During a live show, Karavek couldn't enter Kengkaj's body, and the performance was a disaster. Eventually, Kengkaj and the ghost of Karavek made a pact: Karavek would help Kengkaj sing if Kengkaj helped find his long-lost daughter. Neither realized that the girl they were looking for was Chorkhaew.
Betrayal and the "Slave Contract"
After being released from prison, Soy stole a masterpiece song titled "Siang Khuan Jak Huajai" (Lament from the Heart) and sold it to Singha. The song became a massive hit, making Singha and his father wealthy, while Sanaoh's team had no evidence of the theft.
Singha eventually discovered the truth: Chorkhaew was Karavek's daughter. He tricked her into signing a "slave contract" with his label, promising to help her family but actually trapping her. Chorkhaew left Sanaoh’s band in a misunderstanding, believing Sanaoh had a hand in her parents' death—a lie fed to her by Singha's father, Nan.
The Final Showdown
The truth eventually came to light:
Sanaoh was innocent: He had always loved Karavek and Chorkhaew and even tried to save Nan's mother in the past.
The Plan: Kengkaj and Karavek’s ghost worked together to expose the villains and destroy the unfair contract.
The Reunion: In a final grand concert, Karavek possessed Kengkaj one last time to sing a duet with his daughter, Chorkhaew. He asked for her forgiveness and passed the torch to her.
Conclusion
The Villains: Singha and Nan lost everything and went bankrupt. Soy redeemed himself by taking a bullet for Sanaoh.
The Lovers: Kengkaj realized he could never be a singer on his own, so he became a songwriter, staying behind the scenes to support Chorkhaew, his true love.
The Legacy: Chorkhaew became the new Queen of Luk Thung, carrying on the Siang Wan Sathan Phrai legacy under the guidance of Sanaoh.
