Synopsis
Pleng Lam is a beautiful, fierce, and tough young woman. She is the only daughter of Bua Sai, a famous Lamtat (traditional Thai antiphonal singing) performer in Bang Lam, Suphan Buri. Ever since she can remember, Pleng Lam has been raised by her mother and Aunt Bua Phuean. She never knew her father, and Bua Sai refused to ever speak of him. When Pleng Lam was a child, Bua Sai found an abandoned baby girl in a bush in front of their house and took her in, naming her Khai Ga. The two girls grew up together like sisters. While Pleng Lam has the grace and voice perfect for Lamtat, she refuses to learn it, no matter how much her mother insists.
Instead, Pleng Lam prefers learning Muay Thai with Aunt Bua Phuean and is skilled with engines and farm machinery. In contrast, Khai Ga desperately wants to be a Lamtat performer despite lacking the looks and the voice. Bua Sai’s family and neighbors practice traditional farming without chemicals or heavy machinery. This displeases Kamnan Foi and his children, Fa Jeeb and Fa Juk, who run a chemical fertilizer and harvester rental business. Most villagers are heavily in debt to Kamnan Foi’s family.
Kamnan Foi once loved Bua Sai, but after she returned from Bangkok pregnant with an unknown father, he turned to drink and was forced to marry Bua Sai’s rival. Now a widower, his children Fa Jeeb and Fa Juk have acted like village thugs and rivals to Pleng Lam since childhood.
The Arrival of Pakornpon
Pakornpon, a graduate student, arrives in Bang Lam to research Lamtat for his thesis. He is the son of At and Chomtru, a wealthy business family. Unlike his father, Pakornpon loves arts and culture. He is pursued by Ngam Chailai, a spoiled socialite who claims to be his girlfriend, though he only sees her as a younger sister.
While traveling to Bua Sai’s house, Pakornpon's car breaks down. He meets Pleng Lam, who helps him. Later that night, he rescues Pleng Lam from an ambush by Fa Jeeb and his gang. To thank him, Pleng Lam takes him to her aunt's boxing camp for safety.
To get information for his thesis, Pakornpon must pass Bua Sai's test: working in the rice fields. Though he is unaccustomed to hard labor, his determination wins Pleng Lam over. However, the heat causes him to collapse with a high fever. Pleng Lam cares for him deeply, sparking feelings between them. When Ngam Chailai finds out, she rushes to the village to reclaim him and takes him back to Bangkok, leading to a misunderstanding between the leads.
Conflicts and Secrets
Back in the village, a political battle ensues as Pleng Lam nominates Jerd (the lead male singer in Bua Sai's troupe) to run for Village Head against Fa Jeeb. In retaliation, Fa Jeeb tries to sabotage the villagers' harvest with a harvester. Pleng Lam outsmarts him by planting iron rods in the fields, destroying Fa Jeeb’s machine.
Pakornpon returns to Bang Lam, not just for his research, but for Pleng Lam. However, when his father, At, follows him, a dark secret is revealed. It turns out At was the man who knew Bua Sai in the past. Bua Sai realizes that if Pleng Lam is At's daughter, then Pakornpon and Pleng Lam are half-siblings. Fearing this incestuous connection, Bua Sai forbids them from seeing each other.
Devastated and wanting to be a good daughter, Pleng Lam tells Pakornpon to leave. Pakornpon returns to Bangkok and agrees to marry Ngam Chailai. Meanwhile, Pleng Lam finally agrees to learn Lamtat to compete in a major provincial contest against Fa Jeeb.
The Climactic Engagement
The truth about Pakornpon’s parentage is further complicated when Datsakorn, an old flame of Chomtru’s, appears. It is revealed that Pakornpon is actually Datsakorn’s son, not At’s—meaning he and Pleng Lam are not siblings.
Unaware of this, Ngam Chailai hires Bua Sai’s troupe to perform at her engagement party to humiliate them. Pleng Lam accepts the job for a fee of one million baht to help her mother, planning to marry Jerd afterward out of duty.
During the engagement party, chaos erupts. Fa Jeeb and Fa Juk plot to kidnap Ngam Chailai and Pakornpon for themselves. The lights are cut, and Ngam Chailai is abducted by Fa Jeeb. Pakornpon and his friend Kutchong eventually find her abandoned and traumatized on a dike.
The story follows the journey of these characters as they navigate the traditional arts of Lamtat, family secrets, and a love that must overcome social status and perceived blood ties.
