Synopsis
Akin Akira (Thakrit Tawanpong), the new Chief of the Forest Protection Unit, leads Border Patrol Police to a forest ordination ceremony in Pha Mok village. Akin announces that the villagers are encroaching on a reserved forest and faces arrest. While everyone is terrified, Napdao (Yardthip Rajpal), owner of "Saeng Dao Farm," argues that the community existed here long before the government declared it a reserved forest. Akin insists on enforcing the law. Before they can settle the dispute, a fire breaks out in the village. After the fire, Napdao finds evidence of arson and becomes convinced that the forestry officials set the fire to evict the villagers and boost their own performance records.
Akin and Intorn (Kantapat Permpoonpatcharasuk), his close subordinate, suspect Songpol (Anuwat Niwatwong), an influential local figure, is behind the arson. Although Songpol denies involvement, his suspicious behavior contrasts sharply with Father Jom (Sumet Ong-art), a stepfather figure who acts like a saint helping the disaster victims. Akin searches the forest for traces of Somchai (Toon Hiranyasap), the former unit chief who mysteriously disappeared. He encounters Napdao and mistakenly accuses her of being a culprit poisoning trees. Lacking evidence to arrest her, the accusation only infuriates Napdao and deepens the conflict between them.
Akin discovers illegally cut logs, but they vanish before he can seize them. He later falls ill, and Intorn takes him to Napdao’s house hoping her father, Kampan (Surachai Sombatchareon), a herbalist, can help. Since Kampan is away, Napdao treats Akin herself. Akin is touched, but Napdao remains skeptical, believing he cares more about his career stats than helping the villagers. Napdao eventually volunteers for forest protection and goes on patrol with Akin. Akin develops feelings for her but suppresses them, believing she is dating Nannatee (Natcha Jantapan), his Border Patrol Police partner.
Ignoring warnings about a curse from Intorn and Boonta (Pantila Fuklin), Akin explores the Phu Pha Prai cave seeking clues about Somchai. He discovers a hidden opium field behind the cave. Nannatee arrives with backup, leading to a shootout where Nannatee is critically injured. Mankaeo (Nattapatara Adulyamethasiri), a volunteer teacher and Napdao's close friend, is devastated as she secretly loves Nannatee. Fire spreads from the opium field to Songpol’s adjacent farm. Akin suspects Songpol is involved in the drug trade and burned the farm to destroy evidence, but an investigation yields no proof.
After Nannatee recovers, he and Akin arrest Kampan, who is found with raw opium. Later, they catch the real courier (who is subsequently murdered to silence him), proving Kampan’s innocence. Akin apologizes, and Kampan forgives him, though Napdao remains angry. Akin volunteers to take photos for Napdao’s organic farming website, warming their relationship. Later, acting on a tip about illegal logging equipment, Akin follows a villager he mistakes for Kampan. Napdao, birdwatching nearby, is furious that he still suspects her father. Akin explains he is investigating Somchai’s disappearance. Skeptical, she follows him into the forest, where she almost falls off a cliff before Akin saves her.
Stranded by heavy rain, they spend the night in the forest and realize their mutual feelings. Villagers gossip about the incident, causing Kampan to forbid Napdao from seeing Akin. She disobeys and joins Akin in the forest again, where they are ambushed by a gunman. Nannatee saves them. Napdao begs Nannatee not to tell her father; he agrees on the condition she stops hiking with Akin. Nannatee realizes Napdao loves Akin. He confides in Mankaeo, who selflessy encourages him to confess his love to Napdao despite her own pain.
At an agricultural fair, Akin helps Napdao sell her produce. They spend time together, which breaks Nannatee's heart. Later, Kampan catches the couple in the forest. He punches Akin, breaking his necklace and revealing a specific locket (Naga Buddha) similar to one Somchai wore. Realizing Akin is Somchai’s son, Kampan furiously forbids their relationship and orders Napdao to marry Nannatee immediately. Akin is devastated, while Nannatee happily prepares to propose.
Akin "kidnaps" Napdao on her wedding day. Kampan disowns her. Akin hides her at a forestry safehouse. Jom tips off Nannatee, who confronts Akin. They fight, but Nannatee stops before shooting Akin. Nannatee eventually finds them, confirming Napdao is with Akin. Guilt-ridden, Napdao returns home to beg for forgiveness, but Kampan kicks her out, forcing her back to Akin. Meanwhile, Boonta leaves Intorn to be Jom’s mistress for money. Desperate for cash, Intorn becomes an informant for Jom’s illegal logging ring. During a clash with poachers, Akin unmasks a suspect and is shocked to find it is Kampan. Napdao tries to reconcile with her father again on her birthday. Akin is torn between love and duty.
Intorn leads a raid on Napdao’s farm, finding planted animal carcasses used by Jom to frame Kampan. This distraction allows Jom to transport a large drug shipment. Napdao believes Akin staged the raid for revenge, while Akin, manipulated by Jom’s lies, believes Napdao only got close to him to protect her criminal father. They break up painfully. Boonta returns to Intorn, pretending to reconcile on Jom’s orders to keep him under control.
Nannatee bails Kampan out, earning Napdao’s gratitude. He asks for a chance at love, but Napdao is silent. He tells Akin he will compete for her, but Akin claims his relationship with Napdao is over.
Jom’s men hijack a log truck, killing Intorn’s friend Muangming. Furious, Intorn tries to quit Jom’s gang but is threatened and learns Boonta has been Jom’s mistress all along. Guilt-ridden but afraid, he hesitates to confess to Akin. Saengla, Jom’s henchman, attempts to kidnap a student for a powerful figure known as "The Boss." After failing, a drug-crazed Saengla attacks Nannatee. Akin takes a bullet for Nannatee, cementing their friendship.
Jom fires Saengla to cut ties. Saengla defects to Songpol with evidence of Jom’s crimes (arson and framing Songpol). Songpol protects him as a witness. Jom schemes to seize villagers' land documents with Headman Kong’s help. Jom orders his men to kidnap Napdao to be his mistress. Boonta warns Intorn, but Napdao is captured. Akin attempts a rescue but is also captured.
While held captive, Akin and Napdao reconcile. Police, using Songpol as bait, arrest Jom during a timber deal. Desperate, Jom forces Kampan to confess to killing Somchai. Kampan admits guilt, devastating Napdao. Akin doubts the confession. Saengla attempts to assassinate Jom at the police station but is stopped.
Before being arrested, Saengla reveals the truth: Jom orchestrated Somchai’s death. Jom lured both men to the cave. Kampan believed his accidental gun discharge killed Somchai, but Saengla, hiding nearby, fired the fatal shot on Jom’s orders. Kampan is finally cleared of guilt.
"The Boss" has Jom poisoned in prison to silence him. Headman Kong repents and helps return the land to the villagers before going to jail himself. Boonta loses her mind from drug abuse; Intorn, though dismissed from the service, cares for her while working at Napdao’s farm. Nannatee proposes to Mankaeo, realizing she is his true happiness.
With the bad times behind them, Akin and Napdao vow to Somchai’s spirit to develop Pha Mok village sustainably. The community joins the "Royal Forest Development Project," learning that they are the true guardians of the forest.
Witness a beautiful romantic story set amidst winter crops and highland agriculture, highlighting watershed conservation and forest preservation under the Royal Initiative. Watch "Saeng Dao Klang Jai" every Monday-Friday at 6:30 PM on Thai TV Channel 3, premiering Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
