Synopsis

In 1905, towards the end of King Chulalongkorn's reign, slavery had been abolished. However, men, especially those of noble rank, commonly had multiple wives. While men fought for social status and positions, women fought for power within the household.
The family of Khun Luang Prap Thamrongnakhara (Saksit Tangthong) is no exception. Khun Luang has a primary wife, Chomnard (Namthip Jongrachatawiboon), a woman from a high-ranking family, and Euang Kam (Pimmada Boriruksuppakorn), the daughter of a merchant from Chiang Mai. Both compete fiercely to be Khun Luang’s favorite.
Chomnard has Ee-Ee (Ranya Siyanon) as her loyal servant and spy. Euang Kam has Ee-Mui (Nahathai Pijitra), a servant who followed her from Chiang Mai, serving the same role. Chomnard and Euang Kam clash often because Euang Kam is spoiled and vengeful, refusing to yield to the primary wife. Chomnard appears kind and merciful on the outside but hides a cold-blooded nature underneath. Euang Kam and Ee-Mui see through this façade and do not trust her.
When a servant wife named Soi (Uthaisri Srinarong) becomes pregnant, Chomnard secretly kills her using a poisonous spider ("Bueng Cha-ngak") and frames Euang Kam. During this time, Euang Kam also becomes pregnant. Khun Luang decides to let her give birth first before kicking her and Ee-Mui out of the house. Euang Kam is furious that no one believes her innocence. Driven by vengeance, she sneaks into Chomnard’s quarters to kill her but accidentally falls down the stairs and miscarries. Having lost everything, she waits for the day she will be expelled. However, on that day, Euang Kam appears to go mad, crying out for her child. Pitying her, Khun Luang allows her to stay.
Even with Euang Kam’s downfall, Chomnard cannot rest because Mali (Sopitnapa Chumpanee), another innocent servant wife, remains a thorn in her side. Worse, Mali and Ai Ming (Arnatpol Sirichumsang), a male servant, discover the truth about the poisonous spider. Chomnard decides to eliminate them by framing them for adultery. Khun Luang, enraged by the alleged betrayal, orders them punished and expelled.
Mali, Ai Ming, and Aunt Pis (Pimkae Goonchorn Na Ayuthaya), Ai Ming's aunt, flee to a nearby temple. Luang Ta Noi (Sorapong Chatree), a monk, helps them settle in a hut behind the temple. It turns out Mali is pregnant with Khun Luang’s child, forcing them to stay put instead of moving away. Meanwhile, Chomnard also becomes pregnant.
One day, Ee-Ee spots Ai Ming at the temple and learns that Mali is carrying Khun Luang's child. Chomnard orders Ee-Ee to deal with them. That evening, Mali gives birth to twin boys. Late at night, Ee-Ee sets fire to their hut, intending to burn everyone alive. Mali manages to grab only one baby. The other baby, whose chest is scarred by a dropped amulet given by Luang Ta Noi, is left in the fire with Aunt Pis. Mali and Ai Ming escape but faint near the house, unaware that Aunt Pis managed to throw the other baby onto a patch of morning glory before dying.
Back at the main house, Chomnard goes into labor while waiting for Ee-Ee. With all the servants away fighting the fire at the servant quarters, the only person who comes to her aid is Euang Kam. After Chomnard gives birth to a daughter, Euang Kam snatches the baby, revealing she was faking her madness. Euang Kam flees with Ee-Mui and the baby that night.
When Ee-Ee returns, she rushes to find Euang Kam to retrieve Chomnard’s child. However, the baby she brings back is actually one of Mali’s sons, found by Luang Ta Noi on the lotus patch. Chomnard unknowingly raises another woman's son as her own. Although Ee-Ee learns from the monk that the child belongs to Mali, she keeps it a secret.
Mali, believing her other son died in the fire with Aunt Pis, grieves and moves with Ai Ming to settle in Ayutthaya. On the way, they meet a dying pregnant woman who entrusts her newborn daughter to Mali before passing away. Mali names the girl Sai Yood and names her own son Meung.
Ruen Sanaeha (House of Affection)
Euang Kam and Ee-Mui, having stolen Chomnard’s daughter, end up as wives of Tao Kae Song (Prakasit Bosuwan), an opium den owner. Euang Kam names the girl Chuan Chom and renames herself Mei Fang, while Ee-Mui becomes Ngek. Euang Kam raises Chuan Chom like a noblewoman, training her in courtly manners, much to Ee-Mui’s confusion.
Khun Luang adores his "first son," naming him Suk (Happiness), believing he will bring peace to the home. Shortly after, Chomnard becomes pregnant again and gives birth to a son named Thep. She raises him with blatant favoritism, causing frequent arguments with Khun Luang. Ee-Ee raises Suk with pity and care.
Meanwhile, Mali and Ai Ming raise Meung and Sai Yood as siblings, though the children believe Mali and Ai Ming are their real parents. In reality, Mali and Ai Ming live together as brother and sister.
18 years later, in the reign of King Rama VI, Khun Luang has been promoted to Khun Phra Thamrongnakhara. Suk grows up amidst Chomnard’s hatred because Khun Phra loves him dearly. The more accomplished and good Suk becomes, the more he is compared to Thep, Chomnard’s biological son. Thep is uninterested in studies, preferring to party and have fun, disappointing his father. Despite feeling his mother’s lack of love, Suk remains a grateful son, trying to win her affection without ever envying his brother. Khun Phra hopes to betroth Suk to Deuan, the daughter of his friend Khun Luang Wai (Sarut Vijittranon).
Mali and Ai Ming’s children grow up. Meung gets into a fight with gangsters trying to abduction Sai Yood. Pursued by the thugs, the family flees by boat and ends up back in Phra Nakhon (Bangkok).
One day, Tao Kae Song discovers that Chuan Chom is actually the daughter of Chomnard and Khun Phra. He intends to tell the truth. Euang Kam uses "Kaen Ranjuan," an aphrodisiac wood she has used many times to seduce men. However, the dose is too strong, causing Tao Kae Song to die in her arms. Euang Kam seizes control of the business. She has raised Chuan Chom well, and the girl obeys her every command, waiting for the day Euang Kam reveals her true parents.
Ee-Mui finally realizes that everything Euang Kam has done was solely to prepare for her revenge against Chomnard—to inflict the ultimate pain upon her!
How will this tragedy of affection and vengeance end? Follow the story in the drama "Ruen Sanaeha" (House of Affection).
