Synopsis
At Thung Bang Phleng, not too near and not too far from Bangkok, there lives a young orphan boy with a heart full of music named Tone. Tone grew up alongside Keng, a tough guy with a gangster attitude; Sang, a young man with an ugly face but a kind and funny heart; and finally, Moss, a talkative 7-year-old boy who considers Tone his idol.
All four are temple boys raised since they were tiny by Luang Ta Can, a former famous Luk Thung (Thai country music) singer. Although they are temple boys, they are fighters who often cause headaches for Luang Ta. However, Luang Ta loves them dearly and has passed on his knowledge of singing, songwriting, and playing music so they can use these skills to make a living.
Rose, the only daughter of Headman Narong of Thung Bang Phleng, has a talent for singing and dancing, but Narong does not support it. Luang Ta Can, a close friend of Headman Narong, asks Rose to help teach the children of poor villagers around the temple to give them a vocation. Rose secretly likes Tone, but Tone is humble and dares not get involved with her. In contrast, Keng is in love with Rose, but she only sees him as a good big brother.
Wat Thung Bang Phleng holds an annual temple fair. In addition to Luk Thung bands, there is a rocket competition. Keng makes a bet with the group of Baramee, the son of Amnat, the famous sub-district administrative organization president. The bet is that if Baramee loses, he must donate 100,000 baht to the temple. But if his own rocket loses, Baramee gets to kiss Rose on the cheek. Tone is furious at Keng for making such a crazy bet, but Rose agrees to the challenge because she believes Tone’s rocket will definitely win.
On the day of the fair, the entourage of Prajin, a Luk Thung music label owner, arrives. His eldest son, Odd, and youngest daughter, Noodaeng, accompany him. In the past, Luang Ta Can was a singer in the same band as Prajin and Narong. The three are close friends who have been through thick and thin together since their youth.
Baramee's team and Tone's team prepare to launch their rockets. Villagers flock to watch, and betting is lively on both sides. Baramee launches his rocket first; it only reaches the treetops before falling. Tone’s side rejoices because their rocket only needs to go slightly higher than the trees to win. However, things don't go as planned. Tone's rocket, secretly tampered with by Baramee's men, spins wildly around the temple fair instead of shooting up, causing chaos. Worse, it crashes next to Prajin's car, where Noodaeng sits refusing to join the event. Being high-maintenance, she is furious that the car is damaged, and worse, her face is covered in black gunpowder soot. Noodaeng goes berserk, demanding to know who owns the rocket.
Bad luck strikes when Tone arrives to retrieve the rocket. He meets Noodaeng, and they argue fiercely. Keng and Sang arrive to stop the fight, but Noodaeng won't let it go. She demands Tone take responsibility for the damages with a massive sum of money. Tone is shocked as he has no way to pay. To make matters worse, since Tone’s side lost, Rose must fulfill her promise to let Baramee kiss her cheek. Keng refuses to allow it, sparking a brawl involving Tone and Sang. Moss, seeing his side losing, shouts that the police are coming, breaking up the fight as everyone scatters. Tone, Keng, and Sang escape Baramee’s clutches.
Luang Ta Can mediates with Prajin, proposing that instead of paying for the damages to Noodaeng, Tone will work to pay off the debt. He hopes Tone can work at Prajin’s music company. However, Noodaeng refuses, insisting Tone must work as a servant at her house for one year to pay for his mistake.
Tone accepts the offer with worry for Luang Ta, but Noodaeng thinks he is worried about Rose, misunderstanding him as a flirt. Keng, Sang, and Moss volunteer to go help Tone. Noodaeng refuses, wanting to torment Tone alone without him having allies in her house. Luang Ta asks for a day or two for Tone to prepare before heading to Bangkok.
Trouble finds Keng again with Baramee, caused by Rose (as usual). This time, Baramee gets injured, making Amnat furious and determined to have Keng’s head. Concerned for Keng’s safety, Luang Ta decides to send Keng, Sang, and Moss to Bangkok with Tone, with Prajin keeping it a secret from Noodaeng until they arrive. Meanwhile, Narong worries Baramee might harm Rose, so he sends her to live with Aunt Somjai, her real aunt in Bangkok. Keng is overjoyed to learn Rose is going to Bangkok too.
When Tone, Keng, Sang, and Moss arrive at Prajin’s mansion, they are awed by its size. While waiting for Noodaeng, Sang and Moss can't resist jumping into the pool. Tone and Keng try to stop them but eventually jump in too. Noodaeng arrives and is furious that Tone disobeyed orders by bringing friends and using the pool without permission. She orders them out, but slips and falls into the pool herself.
Noodaeng punishes Tone, Keng, and Sang by making them clean the pool, sparing Moss because he is a child. After cleaning, she kicks Keng and Sang out to live elsewhere but allows Tone and Moss to stay. However, Odd intervenes, and Noodaeng is forced to let all four stay in the house. Luckily, Rose’s Aunt Somjai’s house is nearby.
Noodaeng works Tone to the bone. Keng and Sang can slack off, but Tone must do everything! Moss is the exception; being a sweet-talking child, Noodaeng adores him like a younger brother, letting him live like a king. Meanwhile, Tone, Keng, and Sang live like paupers, forced to please Moss so he will bring them good food and supplies.
Tone is bullied by Miss Noodaeng in every way possible, forced to do heavy and strange jobs men usually don't do, like washing clothes and polishing shoes. Tone complies, but due to his naivety, he makes mistakes—like hanging underwear in the front yard or washing expensive dry-clean-only clothes until they are ruined, increasing his debt to Noodaeng.
Keng frequently visits Rose but is always blocked by Aunt Somjai and her daughter, Toiting. Keng is scared of the aunt, but with Toiting, the two become constant frenemies.
Narong gets Rose a job at Prajin’s music label caring for artists. However, Rose often secretly dances and sings along during rehearsals. People at the label admire her good nature and helpfulness, including Odd, who becomes impressed with her.
Odd’s attention to Rose makes Noodaeng jealous, and she finds ways to bully Rose, causing arguments with Tone. Noodaeng misunderstands that Tone and Rose have a special relationship and warns Odd, but he doesn't believe her.
Prajin, pitying the boys, gives Tone, Keng, and Sang jobs at the music label, doing everything from cleaning toilets to setting up stages. Angry that her father sides with them, Noodaeng asks to work at the company too, pretending to want to help, but really just to keep an eye on things. Only Odd suspects she is up to something.
Meanwhile, in Thung Bang Phleng, Baramee hears Tone is doing well in Bangkok. Jealous, he asks his father to go to Bangkok too. Amnat sends him to stay with Bancha, a respected figure who owns various businesses like cafes and hotels, but is actually a major mafia boss. Bancha ignores Baramee until Baramee saves him from a shooting, instantly promoting him to his right-hand man.
Tone continues to be harassed by Noodaeng, who orders him to be her driver. Spending time together allows Tone to try and fix her spoiled behavior by taking her to street food stalls, orphanages, and social work like cleaning canals. When she refuses, he challenges her, forcing her to comply. Unknowingly, Noodaeng starts to become a better person, pleasing Tone.
Once, returning from a trip, they get caught in a storm and the car breaks down. Noodaeng panics, but Tone acts as a gentleman, letting her stay in the car while he pushes it in the rain. Noodaeng is secretly impressed but pretends not to care and continues bullying him.
However, seeing Tone care for Rose makes Noodaeng inexplicably unhappy. Meanwhile, Odd asks Tone to be a matchmaker for him and Rose. Tone is conflicted, knowing Keng loves Rose, but feels indebted to Odd. Rose misunderstands that Tone likes her, causing Keng to misunderstand too. Things escalate into a fistfight between Keng and Tone. Noodaeng hates Rose even more, blaming her for the fight. This event reveals to Odd that Keng has loved Rose for a long time.
Jintana, Noodaeng’s mother, wants her daughter to be a famous Luk Thung singer. Prajin asks Tone to teach her, but Noodaeng claims she hates Luk Thung to avoid being near Tone, realizing she has started to fall for him. Prajin hires Keeta, a flirtatious musician, to teach her string pop instead. Tone watches them closely, sensing Keeta is bad news. He warns Noodaeng, but she accuses him of being pessimistic and flirts with Keeta to spite Tone whenever he is with Rose. In reality, Keeta is having an affair with Poopae, a sexy Luk Thung singer who secretly likes Tone for his honesty.
Odd sees star potential in Rose and suggests his father sign her, but Noodaeng objects. Tone suggests Sang write a song for Rose to pitch to other labels, but Noodaeng forbids it. Keeta eventually reveals his true colors, trying to assault Noodaeng. Tone saves her just in time. Noodaeng is touched but keeps her guard up, refusing to thank him, though she reduces his debt sentence from 1 year to 11 months.
Noodaeng tells Tone if he wants more days reduced, he must please her. Since Keeta was fired, Tone becomes her teacher. This time, she doesn't refuse and secretly enjoys the intimacy. Tone teaches her Luk Thung, pleasing Prajin. The lessons are chaotic as she pretends to be unable to sing so Tone will have to teach her longer.
Bancha expands his business, inviting Prajin to open a children's music label. The first artist is "Moss." Baramee takes over this project, meeting Tone's group again. He shifts his interest from Rose to Noodaeng because she is richer. Baramee flirts with Noodaeng, but she coldly rejects and insults him, infuriating him. He vows to conquer her.
Keng begins to lose hope with Rose and tries to move on. During his sadness, Toiting comforts him, and he sees her gentle side. The former enemies become close friends.
Rose sees Tone’s closeness with Noodaeng and accepts they aren't meant to be. Odd invites sad Rose to teach slum children to dance as backup for Moss. Moss meets Ton-Or, the community leader's daughter, who is 5 years older. Moss lives by the motto "Age is just a number," inspiring Sang to write a hit song about it for Moss.
Baramee plots big, inviting Amnat to Bangkok to open a legitimate CD business as a front for a massive piracy operation, stealing music from Prajin’s label. He also sleeps with Poopae. Baramee tricks Bancha into legally adopting him, then embezzles his money. When Bancha finds out, Baramee eliminates him first, taking over the mafia empire. Amnat tries to stop his son but is silenced by Baramee's threats.
Tone and Noodaeng’s relationship improves, and they slowly fall for each other, though they remain stubborn. Keng and Toiting, and Odd and Rose, become happy couples. Only Sang is single, but he enjoys being a charmer with many girls, especially Maew and Moo, the twin maids at Noodaeng’s house who fight over him.
Approaching the 20th Anniversary of Prajin’s label, a big concert is planned to debut Noodaeng. Tone helps her rehearse and decides to confess his love after the show. Meanwhile, Baramee has Amnat ask for Noodaeng’s hand in marriage. Prajin agrees due to Baramee’s status, but Noodaeng refuses and insults Baramee at his home. Enraged, Baramee swears to make her his wife.
Baramee frames Tone, Keng, and Sang for selling pirated CDs. Prajin, furious, kicks them out and bans them from the house, ignoring pleas from Noodaeng and others. Tone and Noodaeng are separated before he can confess. Prajin forces Noodaeng to marry Baramee. When she refuses, she is locked up.
Tone, Sang, and Keng stay at Aunt Somjai’s, unemployed. Tone suggests Sang write songs to pitch to labels. Odd secretly supports them and passes news to Noodaeng. Unable to bear the separation, Odd sneaks Tone to meet Noodaeng. Tone confesses his love, and she accepts. However, Yong, Baramee’s henchman, spots them. Baramee sends men to attack Tone, but the trio fights them off. Moss, lonely, runs away to join Tone, quitting the label to help them sing at temple fairs and markets. A clip of them goes viral, getting them hired for events.
Prajin discovers Baramee is the piracy kingpin and seeks help from Inspector Traiphum. Prajin apologizes to Tone and asks him to return. Tone and Noodaeng confess their love to her parents, who happily accept.
Baramee, cornered by financial ruin and gambling debts, is furious. Inspector Traiphum raids his piracy factory. Bankrupt, Amnat begs him to return to the countryside, but Baramee blames Tone and seeks revenge.
On the day of the 20th Anniversary Concert, Baramee infiltrates the crowd and kidnaps Noodaeng. Rose witnesses it and is captured too. Baramee demands a ransom from Prajin, with Tone delivering the money.
The concert is canceled. Tone brings the money, followed secretly by Keng and Sang. Tone demands to see the girls before handing over the cash. Yong spots Keng and Sang, signaling Baramee. A fight ensues. Sang is shot by Baramee while protecting Tone and Keng. Inspector Traiphum surrounds and arrests Baramee and Yong before they can escape with the money.
Sang is rushed to the hospital but doesn't survive. He tells his friends to enjoy life so he can rest in peace and asks them to sing his songs. Tone, Keng, and Moss promise, and Sang passes away peacefully.
They bring Sang’s body back to Thung Bang Phleng for the funeral. Prajin organizes a concert there in his honor. Tone, Keng, and Moss sing Sang’s song, making it an overnight sensation.
After 11 months, Tone’s debt contract ends. Now a famous songwriter, Tone proposes to Noodaeng. She agrees, and they hold a joint wedding with Odd and Rose. Keng and Toiting, already married, have a child. Moss becomes a hundred-million-baht child star, booked for the next 10 years.
All four are temple boys raised since they were tiny by Luang Ta Can, a former famous Luk Thung (Thai country music) singer. Although they are temple boys, they are fighters who often cause headaches for Luang Ta.
