Synopsis
Tao Gae Kuang (Den Dokpradoo), the owner of the Golden Dragon neighborhood, finds himself with a massive headache when a new development project, "Yaowarej Avenue Village," suddenly springs up nearby. Investors are buying up land in the vicinity, and the local community members are all agreeing to sell. The Golden Dragon neighborhood is the only one left. Tao Gae Kuang refuses to sell because he feels a deep sentimental attachment to his long-time friends in the area, both living and dead, whom he wouldn't be able to "talk" to anymore. To make matters worse, none of his children or grandchildren have any intention of looking after the neighborhood. They just want to sell it off, reasoning that there is no male heir in the grandchildren's generation to carry on the family name anyway, so they might as well sell the land and split the money.
Right around this time, Tao Gae Kuang receives a letter from his youngest daughter, Ah Mei—whom he had disowned long ago after she eloped with a Westerner. Thinking to himself, "If I had a grandson, I wouldn't have to sell this neighborhood," he announces to everyone that he actually has a grandson returning from abroad. He throws a grand welcome party, only to be shocked when he discovers that his grandson is a blonde-haired Westerner.
Tao Gae Kuang's children cannot accept the sudden appearance of this mysterious nephew, and even Tao Gae Kuang himself is reluctant to accept this blonde-haired boy as his grandson. Ah Gui (Kolas Atthaseri) and Ah Chai (Maneenuch Smerasut) lead the family in a mission to uncover the truth: Is David (Danai Smuthkochorn) really Ah Mei's son? They try everything from hiring a forensic expert to verify Ah Mei's handwriting on the letter, to sneaking around for David's DNA samples, and even using Chinese face-reading (physiognomy) to compare his facial bone structure. They pull out every trick in the book.
However, the evidence increasingly points to David being the real grandson. Eventually, Tao Gae Kuang accepts him, telling everyone that David is indeed his grandson because he can tell just by looking into his eyes. The rest of the family starts to realize just how desperately Tao Gae Kuang wants an heir. They also realize there is no point in investigating further: if David is the real grandson, it's a good thing; if not, exposing him would only break the old man's heart. Ultimately, when David learns about the family's doubts, he presents his birth certificate as proof, along with a photo of him and his mother sent over from Canada. This finally convinces everyone that they've got the right guy.
What will happen next in this chaotic family? Tune in to find out in the drama "Tao Gae Sae John" (The Boss with the Last Name John).
