Synopsis

"Princess Pikul Thong" is the daughter of "King Sannurat" and his queen consort, "Queen Pikul Jantra," the rulers of the city of Sapphaburi. As she enters adolescence, her beauty becomes legendary, said to be unmatched by any other woman. Not only do golden pikul (bullet wood) flowers magically fall from her lips whenever she speaks, but her hair also carries a heavenly fragrance.
One day, feeling restless and hot, she asks King Sannurat for permission to bathe in the stream with her royal attendants. The King orders nets and buoys to be placed around the bathing pavilion, as the royal astrologer had prophesied that the princess would one day be tragically separated from her city.
Meanwhile, a Giant Vulture King named "Thao Suban Paksa" flies by and spots a rotting dog carcass. He swoops down to eat it near the area where Princess Pikul Thong and her attendants are bathing. Catching the foul stench, the princess sends her attendants to investigate. Finding the giant vulture feeding on the carcass, they hurl harsh, vulgar insults at him and chase him away.
Furious, the Vulture King retorts that the rotting dog is his natural food and that a high-born royal like Princess Pikul Thong shouldn't use such vile words to curse and drive him away. He flies off but harbors a deep desire for revenge. He devises a cunning plan by transforming himself into a handsome young man and asks for lodging with an elderly couple in a cottage at the edge of Sapphaburi's royal garden. He secretly conjures gold for the couple to spend, making them wealthy and claiming he found the treasure while digging for yams.
One day, he relentlessly begs the old couple to go to the palace and ask for Princess Pikul Thong's hand in marriage on his behalf. The couple nearly has a heart attack, warning him that such a massive overstepping of boundaries will get their entire family executed for seven generations. The disguised Vulture King then feigns a near-death heartbreak, leaving the couple with no choice but to reluctantly present the proposal to King Sannurat.
Upon hearing the audacious proposal, King Sannurat is absolutely enraged. He declares that if their "grandson" truly has the grand destiny and merit to marry the princess, he must build a magnificent bridge made of silver and gold from the edge of the garden all the way to the royal palace within three days. If he fails, their entire family will be executed.
The old couple returns home depressed, crying and blaming the disguised vulture for bringing this deadly trouble upon them. Hearing the King's condition, the Vulture King comforts them, promising that if he fails, he will accept death in their place, which brings the couple some relief. As night falls, he tells them he needs to run an errand outside. He then transforms back into a gigantic vulture, flies back to Mount Nintakala, and commands his vast army of followers to help build the bridge until it is successfully completed.
