Synopsis
Win, or Piak (Cee Siwat Chotchaicharin), brings his only son, Phason (Porsche Saran Sirilak), to Thailand. He arranges to meet his best friends, Heng (Polar Isawa) and Non (Man Atthachart Sriphakdi), to introduce his son to them. One reason Phason returned to Thailand is to see Khao Pan (Min Pechaya Wattanamontree), the woman he likes. She returned to Thailand because her father passed away suddenly. The two had met at the consulate during a flood relief fundraising event for Thailand and had kept in touch ever since. Phason likes Khao Pan because she is lovely and a capable woman. Khao Pan and her mother are currently busy dealing with her late father's assets, which involve shares held with relatives. Phason invites Khao Pan and her mother to dinner and mentions that his friend Heng, who is a lawyer, might be able to help.
Piak takes Phason to Bobae, the neighborhood where he was born, to show his son how impoverished his childhood was—a stark contrast to his current wealth from his auto parts sales and assembly business in America. Piak is the son of Yoo and Siang (Koo Wasitthi Srilofung). They had six children: Somboon, the eldest daughter, who is married; Somsri (Prae Pornrampa Sukdaipung), the second daughter, who studies at Thammasat University; Piak, the third child, who has to work part-time to pay for his education; Phairat, the younger brother, who was ordained as a monk and never left the monkhood; and Jib and Pu, Piak's younger sisters, who are six and five years old, respectively. Piak's close friends are Wisit (Heng), Sakchai (Ong) (Kung Rawit Raiwin), whose family sells pork satay, and Sanguan (Non), whose family sells fabric. The four friends often play together, and Ong frequently sneaks pork satay for them to eat.
Mother Siang forbids Piak from getting into fights because she knows her son isn't a delinquent, though he is fiercely loyal to his friends. After school, Piak is about to meet Ong and the gang but is intercepted by Kriangsak (Jub Itthikorn Sathutham), the class bully. Kriangsak insults Piak, calling him a coward. Furious, Piak punches Kriangsak until his nose bleeds. Meng and Tee won't let Piak leave the room unless he lets Kriangsak punch him back three times. Piak agrees. He then meets his friends as planned and tells them what happened. Ong wants to go beat up Kriangsak, but Heng and Non stop him. Suddenly, they hear a baby crying. Piak leads his friends to check it out. At the orange jasmine bush, they find a baby girl. They wait for the mother to return, but no one shows up. Feeling sorry for the baby, Piak devises a plan to leave her in front of Boss Him's (Poo Anuwat Niwatwong) house. Nguan (Nui Somsak Rattanakul), Boss Him's driver, spots the baby and calls his boss out. Seeing the baby reminds Boss Him of his deceased daughter with his minor wife, Chaba (Nok Usanee Wattana). He takes the baby to Chaba to raise in place of her lost child.
Madam Tiamkiang (Tom Nahathai Pichitra), Boss Him's legal wife, is furious that he brought a baby girl for Chaba to raise. Normally, Tiamkiang harasses all of Boss Him's minor wives, but Chaba is the tutor for Kowit (Tee Yai) (Thee Wanichnanthada) and Udom (Tee Lek) (Nut Thephasadin Na Ayutthaya), Tiamkiang and Boss Him's two sons. Chaba calls Piak over to see the baby girl. Piak names her Dokkaew (Kwan Usamanee Vaithayanon). Tiamkiang manipulates Tee Lek, telling him that Dokkaew is a street orphan whom Boss Him loves deeply, and that from now on, Tee Lek will be treated like a stray dog. When Tee Yai and Tee Lek visit Chaba to pay their respects, Tee Lek insults Dokkaew, calling her a street orphan and possibly a bastard child. Chaba is furious. Later, Piak overhears Tiamkiang and Tee Lek talking; Tee Lek plans to kill Dokkaew. Piak intervenes and grabs Dokkaew. Boss Him, Chaba, and Riam (Took Phimsiri Kochahirun) walk in. Tee Lek falsely accuses Piak of trying to kill Dokkaew. Enraged, Boss Him kicks Piak. Chaba apologizes to Piak on behalf of the boss.
In 1977, Piak is a fully grown young man and changes his name to Win. He works in the longan auction business. Handsome, smart, and agile, Piak works for Boss Kung and is incredibly crafty at bidding. He has a sideverick named Nan, and his rival is Kuang. Dokkaew has grown into a beautiful young woman, fiercely loved and protected by Boss Him. One day, Piak is ambushed by rivals. In self-defense, he accidentally stabs Kuang with a knife. When Tee Lek returns home and sees Dokkaew for the first time, he immediately hits on her. Just as Udom arrives to report that Piak has stabbed Kuang, Tee Lek waits to harass Dokkaew. She uses the self-defense moves Piak taught her to fend him off until he retreats.
Dokkaew attends Ong's wedding and meets Madam Sali (Wilailak Waingan), the wife of Inspector Amphon (Jetsada Chimplee). Dokkaew gets to know Thaenthai, or Ton (Golf Anuwat Choocherdratana), the son of Sali and Amphon. Thaenthai appears soft and polite, almost effeminate. Thaenthai and his parents discuss Piak's case. Thaenthai reveals that Kuang has agreed to settle the matter and they are negotiating compensation. Dokkaew is thrilled. Boss Him, Dokkaew, and Chaba leave a message with Aunt Somsri, Piak's older sister. Later, Boss Him takes Chaba and Dokkaew out to eat. As they are leaving, a gunman shoots Boss Him in front of the restaurant. Meanwhile, Piak has been ordained as a monk and then disrobes. Somsri decides to tell him about Boss Him being shot. Piak rushes to visit him immediately. He suspects Peng (Boy Kroekphan Ngamjitsuksri), who had previously cheated Boss Him. Piak learns from Chaba that Dokkaew is reading for her exams alone at home, and he distrusts Tee Lek. When Piak meets Thaenthai, he feels weird because Thaenthai seems gay. Chaba tells him Thaenthai is Amphon's son, so Piak greets him warmly and says he wants to thank Amphon. Thaenthai tells Piak that Dokkaew misses him very much and takes him to see her. Dokkaew is overjoyed. Tee Lek walks in and insults Dokkaew. Piak defends her and confronts Tee Lek for trying to harass her, causing Tee Lek to back down. Thaenthai admires Piak's courage. After that, Piak is determined to work hard and save money to study abroad, hoping to return and ask for Dokkaew's hand in marriage so he can be worthy of her.
Piak visits Heng and learns that Toy (Tae Nantasai Pisolyabut) is working for Sia Jua (Phatphong Jittatheerot), a billiard hall owner. Toy asks Piak to play billiards against Samroeng because Piak is the only one who can beat him. Piak says he'll think about it but asks Toy to break up with Muay Lek (Som-O Tharapa Kongthong). Toy insists he truly loves Muay Lek and wants to win money from Sia Jua to elope with her. Piak goes to see Toy but meets Amphasri (Wimonrat Bali), Sia Jua's woman. She invites Piak to the bar where she sings and tries to get close to him. Piak slips up and sleeps with her. He feels guilty and resolves never to get involved with Amphasri again.
As Piak leaves, he runs into Sia Jua, who calls him over and hints that he knows the identity of the gunman who shot Boss Him. Piak is desperate to know. Toy offers a deal: if Piak plays the billiard match, he will reveal the gunman's identity. Piak agrees. Meanwhile, Dokkaew attends Madam Prapha's house merit-making ceremony but doesn't enjoy it because Piak isn't there. She asks Thaenthai to take her home. When she arrives, Phoey tells her that Tiamkiang is sick and waiting for her. Dokkaew rushes upstairs but finds Tee Lek waiting instead. He tries to rape her. She struggles and falls down the stairs. Chaba is horrified and goes on a rampage against Phoey and Tiamkiang. Tiamkiang acts sweet and begs Chaba not to send Tee Lek to jail, using Dokkaew's secret as leverage.
Thaenthai tells Piak about Tee Lek attacking Dokkaew and asks Piak to visit her, but Piak says it isn't the right time yet. Later, Tee Lek goes to eat at a bar and wants to sing, but Piak, who is currently singing, refuses to give up the microphone. Tee Lek punches Piak. Piak doesn't fight back until a police sergeant, brought by Thaenthai, intervenes and arrests Tee Lek. On the day of the billiard match, Piak wins all three sets. Thaenthai tells Piak he has come to take him to visit Dokkaew, but Piak refuses, insisting on finding the man who shot Boss Him first. Toy tells Piak he has found Peng's hideout. They go to a brothel block. Peng is sick in bed but denies guilt. Peng's nephew, an ex-convict and the actual gunman, arrives and quickly flees. Piak gives chase. They fight, but Piak is overpowered and beaten severely. However, the police manage to arrest the culprit.
Boss Him is discharged from the hospital. Tiamkiang manipulates him, claiming Piak caused Tee Lek to be jailed and that Tee Lek was so ashamed he had to flee to Hong Kong. Boss Him summons Piak to ask about Tee Lek. Piak admits it, and Boss Him strikes him in the face and kicks him out of the house. Chaba quickly calls Thaenthai, who visits Piak at home. Thaenthai uses Dokkaew's name to convince Piak to see a doctor. Dokkaew forces Nguan to take her to visit Piak. Piak is overjoyed to see her. She hugs him and vows not to let him die. Thaenthai informs Boss Him that Peng and his nephew, the shooters, have been caught, and that Piak was the one who helped catch them. Boss Him summons Lawyer Prasong to draft his will. He allows Dokkaew to study in Penang and asks Thaenthai to help find a school for her there, as well as a place for Piak to study in America, as a reward for his help. Piak leaves for America with Non and Heng. He keeps up with news from Thailand through Thaenthai's letters but never receives a single letter from Dokkaew.
After two years in America, Mother Siang sends news that Dokkaew has gotten married. Heartbroken, Piak gets blackout drunk. Nuch (Kratip Chawallakorn Wanthanapisitkul) helps take him to Non and Heng. From then on, Piak and Nuch grow closer. Piak proposes to Nuch, and she agrees, even though she knows he still loves Dokkaew. When Nuch is due to give birth to Phason, Piak brings her back to Thailand for the delivery. Piak builds his wealth and brings his siblings to live in America. Years later, Piak asks for Khao Pan's hand in marriage for Phason. Dokkaew takes Piak to visit Chaba, who still lives with Riam. Chaba cries and apologizes to Piak, handing him a box of letters Dokkaew had written to him but that Chaba had withheld. Dokkaew and Piak finally understand everything. Though deeply saddened by the past, they are both happy that their children love each other. Dokkaew entrusts Khao Pan to Piak's care. Piak promises to love Khao Pan just as much as he loves Dokkaew. Dokkaew thanks him and calls him "P'Piak" just like in the old days. Piak smiles with both his eyes and his heart at her words.
