Synopsis
7 Prajanban is a wartime action drama set during World War II, telling the story of a group of Thai fighters who rise up against the Japanese military occupation.
Sergeant Dab Jumpor (Aof Pongpat) is a Thai soldier returning home when, along the way, he comes across a Japanese military unit led by Lieutenant Tomo (M Apinan), torturing prisoners of war. Unable to bear the cruelty, some Thai villagers try to intervene, but Tomo guns them down mercilessly. Sergeant Dab charges into the Japanese soldiers and defeats them, taking satisfaction in finally striking back at the oppressors.
But when he arrives home, he discovers his beloved wife — seven months pregnant — lying dead in a pool of blood, murdered by Tomo’s men who have come to settle a vendetta. The last thing she left for him is a pair of red trousers she had sewn in waiting for her husband. Consumed by grief and rage, Sergeant Dab puts on the red trousers, arms himself, and storms a Japanese camp to seek revenge. He is brutally beaten by Tomo and his men, but a mysterious man in black saves his life.
Dab awakens at the headquarters of Major General Kampanat (Sorapong Chatree), who leads a secret anti-Japanese resistance mission. Dab immediately joins the cause.
His first mission nearly fails when he runs into his old subordinate Dan Mahittha (Bank Pawarit), who is busy courting a Japanese female soldier. Later, Dab is rescued in time by Tangkui (Noom Kanchai) at a gambling den while fleeing Japanese troops. He then seeks out his other former subordinate, Moh Chingmuay (Jason Young), but instead accidentally insults Akkee Mekyan (Art Pasut), a stylish young gambling-den owner, sparking a huge fight. Kampanat has to step in to restore order and orders everyone to track down Kla Talumpuk (Matthew Dean), another important key figure who can help them infiltrate the Japanese.
But just as they are about to act, Juk Biaosakul (Tok Suppakorn), the bomb expert, gets distracted praying to the amulets around his neck, giving Tomo enough time to surround and capture them. Dab and the others fight back together and devastate the Japanese camp.
The name “7 Prajanban” soon becomes widely known, thanks to the loud bragging of Sergeant Eung (Kluay Chernyim) and Jae Ang (On Sriphan), merchants who do business with the Japanese but secretly support the seven fighters. Meanwhile, Admiral Masaharu (Parinya Wikan) orders Tomo to destroy the 7 Prajanban. Kampanat pretends to cooperate with the Japanese and learns their secret plan to find Nam Phi steel, a legendary metal.
Dab then goes to a temple and along the way saves Phiangchan (Fon Kunnat), the daughter of high-ranking officer Luang Phairat Phisit (Moo Sompop), during a bombing incident. But she is soon taken back by Tomo’s men. Not long after, an engagement is arranged between Phiangchan and Tomo as part of a Thai-Japanese alliance.
Dab and his men receive clues about an iron mine and set off to investigate. Along the way, Dan rescues Khamin (Fon Patcharin), the daughter of Uncle Chote (Krailas Kriengkrai), a master blacksmith, from Japanese soldiers. Khamin disguises herself as a man and joins the 7 Prajanban as their guide through the forest. Meanwhile, Moh Chingmuay visits his sick mother in a village and happens to rescue Yuri (Mim Amrapat Julkasian), a Japanese military officer, from anti-Japanese rebels. Moh and Yuri experience something like love at first sight, but their different nationalities force them to suppress their feelings.
The hunt intensifies when the 7 Prajanban come close to Bo Phra Saeng, a sacred spring guarded by the family of Kesorn (Kanokkorn Jaichuen), a village girl. The seven disguise themselves as villagers and infiltrate the mine, where they witness Japanese forces dumping the corpses of Thai laborers, deepening the pain and hatred felt by every Thai person forced to bury their countrymen.
At Japanese headquarters, Phiangchan pretends to be a loyal fiancée in order to spy for Dab’s group, but Tomo eventually discovers her deception. A major clash follows. Khamin helps Phiangchan escape, but they are stopped by Yuri, who is working as a Japanese spy. Kampanat arrives in time to rescue the women.
After a brief lull, Dab and Phiangchan begin to understand each other more deeply, but Dab keeps his heart locked away because he cannot forget the death of his wife, leaving Phiangchan hurt and disappointed. Meanwhile, Dan and Akkee compete openly for Khamin’s affection. Phiangchan’s wedding to Tomo is postponed, and she rushes to tell Dab — but before she can reach the 7 Prajanban’s home, she mysteriously disappears.
As Dab grows desperate over Phiangchan’s disappearance, Kampanat learns from General Phallop (Suchao Pongwilai) that the Japanese are moving something important. An Allied officer, Duncan (Peter Thanasut), reveals that Japan is still pursuing its three-step ladder plan to win the war.
The mission to destroy the enemy and reclaim lost love becomes even fiercer. Yuri is assigned as an assassin to hunt down the 7 Prajanban. Kesorn joins the group to seek revenge, while Khamin decides to set love aside until the mission is over, promising she will only later choose between Akkee and Dan.
Following the Japanese transport convoy to a border village, the 7 Prajanban find villagers lying dead without signs of struggle. Suddenly Kesorn falls ill, and Tangkui stays behind to care for her. The others continue. Soon Khamin also collapses. Akkee and Dan nearly kill each other blaming one another for her condition. Dab himself begins suffering from severe breathing problems but keeps it secret.
Eventually they catch up with the convoy — and make a horrifying discovery: Phiangchan’s body has been abandoned in the forest, gravely ill but still alive. With great effort, she reveals the terrifying truth: the convoy is transporting poison gas, which the Japanese plan to release into the river’s source as a field test. She herself was one of the captives Tomo handed over to scientists for experimentation as part of his revenge. Driven nearly mad with rage, Dab sets out to drag Tomo down, stop the evil plan, and obtain the antidote to save Phiangchan, Kesorn, and Khamin.
Meanwhile, back at headquarters in Bangkok, Kampanat is falsely accused by General Phallop, a Thai traitor secretly selling information to Admiral Masaharu, of planning to assassinate the national leader. Before Kampanat can be executed, Luang Phairat Phisit orders his men to break him out of prison. Kampanat then secretly reaches the leader and exposes General Phallop’s treachery.
Admiral Masaharu, fearful that Phallop might reveal too many secrets, orders Yuri to silence him. Afterward, Masaharu commands a military withdrawal. Realizing she herself may also be eliminated, Yuri thinks of Moh and chooses to betray her superiors. She steals the antidote and heads toward the 7 Prajanban.
Will the 7 Prajanban be able to stop Tomo’s evil plan?
And will Yuri bring the antidote in time to save Phiangchan, Kesorn, and Khamin?
