Synopsis

Jao Sao Rai Som is a romantic comedy-drama about an irresponsible rich heir who is forced to change his life after being ordered to marry the woman who manages his late father’s orange plantation.
Karanakorn, the son of an orange plantation owner, is stunned when he learns the condition written in his father Mr. Sorn Sorapiwat’s will: he will inherit everything only if he legally marries Miss Khwanla, the manager of the plantation. Mr. Sorn set this condition because of his son’s reckless lifestyle — gambling on football, being chased by debt collectors, getting cheated in business, and wasting his days on pleasure — all encouraged by his two indulgent older twin sisters, Saengdao and Saengduen.
From the very first day he arrives at the plantation, Karanakorn feels certain that he could never marry someone like Khwanla, whose dark complexion and plain looks do not appeal to him at all. Khwanla, for her part, pities him. Although he is handsome, she sees him as crude, lazy, and completely irresponsible.
On his first night at the plantation, Karanakorn is forced to stay in a small house by the pond. The next morning, hungry and unable to bear the heat, he walks out to get noodles from a roadside stall in front of the plantation, only to faint along the way. Fortunately, Parawatee, the daughter of the neighboring orange orchard owner, and Sakulthip, a recently divorced widow whose husband was a foreigner, happen to pass by and bring him to Sakulthip’s house. Meanwhile, back at the plantation, a group of thugs arrives looking to collect Karanakorn’s football gambling debts. Khwanla goes searching for him and, with the help of Kittichon, an agricultural academic from Parawatee’s orchard, eventually finds him at Sakulthip’s house.
The next day, Khwanla makes Karanakorn sign an agreement: he may take money from the plantation to pay off his gambling debts, but in exchange he must work as a laborer on the farm. Khwanla then begins forcing him to work hard, though he rarely puts in much effort. Her frustration grows, and she starts losing hope that he can ever change. Fortunately, Komsan, Karanakorn’s friend, asks Khwanla to be patient for the sake of Mr. Sorn.
Khwanla decides to try again with Karanakorn, but a new problem appears: Catrina, a villain-actress from television dramas and the ex-girlfriend of Rathee, with whom Karanakorn once co-owned a pub, lies by claiming she is pregnant. Her scheme fails when Worawee, the daughter of Aunt Sai who has returned home during school break, learns the truth and exposes her.
Later, Karanakorn is pressured into cutting grass at the plantation, but he sneaks off to take a nap instead. Khwanla catches him and scolds him harshly, sparking another round of retaliation between them. Karanakorn gets revenge by persuading Kolap to run away and go swimming at a waterfall, while Khwanla retaliates by reporting him to the police as a thief. She even leaves him overnight in jail as punishment.
As time passes, Karanakorn begins to understand Khwanla better and gradually falls in love with her. No matter how badly he behaves, she still worries about him — especially when he becomes ill. But when his older twin sisters learn that their beloved younger brother is sick, they force him to return to Bangkok for treatment. Before leaving, he promises Khwanla that he will come back in time for the orange harvest.
Once he recovers, Karanakorn returns just in time for harvest season — and this time he has changed completely. Khwanla is astonished by his transformation and begins to feel something unusual herself. But before anything can deepen, Parawatee starts pursuing Karanakorn, hoping to trap him into marriage and use his money to settle debts in place of his father. Yet Karanakorn is not deceived, because the only person in his heart is Khwanla.
Still, the obstacles are far from over. Karanakorn must return to Bangkok for business, and Sakulthip, Pranee (Parawatee’s mother), and Cat — all already jealous of Khwanla — seize the chance while he is away. Together they hire a group of teenagers who once had a conflict with Khwanla to attack her.
How will Khwanla survive this danger?
And will she finally open her heart to Karanakorn?
Find out in “Jao Sao Rai Som” (Bride of the Orange Plantation), airing every Monday to Friday from 7:00–8:00 PM on Thai TV Channel 3, beginning with its first episode on Monday, July 12, 2010.
