Synopsis
Khun Nai Sam Salueng is a family melodrama about inheritance, deception, forgiveness, and healing old wounds.
Khun Nai Nam Phet is a miserly landlady who owns many rental properties, and no one dares challenge her. She protects her interests so fiercely that the villagers often mock her, wondering who she is hoarding her wealth for when she has neither husband nor child by her side. As the only daughter who inherited the noble Phanomdulyaphak family line, she insisted that any man who married her must take her family surname and move into her house. Most men fled from such conditions — except Insaworn, who accepted and married her.
But only one day after Nam Phet gave birth to a son, Insaworn ran away with the baby, and shortly afterward Than Phu Ying, Nam Phet’s mother, died. Unable to bear such overwhelming loss, Khun Nai Nam Phet lost her sanity.
Living next door is Atsara, a bold and fearless young woman who has been in and out of Nam Phet’s house since childhood and is very close to her. Unlike the villagers, who think Nam Phet is simply mad, Atsara feels sympathy for her. Over the years, many impostors have tried to pose as Nam Phet’s long-lost heir in hopes of inheriting her fortune, but Nam Phet has always seen through them.
This time, however, things are different. A man named Inchampa, who looks exactly like Insaworn, appears claiming to be her son. Atsara openly refuses to believe him, but Nam Phet is overjoyed — this is the news she has waited more than twenty years to hear. Suddenly she becomes lively again, dressing brightly and waking up to life, while Atsara keeps watching for signs that Inchampa is a fraud. Inchampa buys a new car, takes over the family businesses, collects rent, and renovates the house.
One day, debt collectors arrive looking for Inkasem, Inchampa’s younger half-brother. Inchampa pays off Inkasem’s overseas gambling debts and warns the creditors never to come back. Later, it is revealed that Inchampa has been calling Inprasong, not Insaworn, his real father. Inprasong had planned for Inchampa to pose as Nam Phet’s son in order to gain her inheritance. But deep down, Inchampa’s true motive is to care for the woman whom his real uncle — and adoptive father — had loved so dearly.
Kumaree, Inchampa’s girlfriend, comes to kneel before Nam Phet and beg for sympathy because she is pregnant. She and Inchampa studied together in America and became lovers there. When Inchampa returned to Thailand, he was left in Inkasem’s care, but somehow Kumaree and Inkasem became involved instead, and she became pregnant. This creates further chaos: Atsara keeps trying to expose Inchampa, while Kumaree constantly picks fights with Atsara.
Atsara later travels north to conduct research for her studies and happens to meet Inkasem. Chetawan invites her to stay at his place, but because it is too cramped, she ends up staying instead at the home of Mae Nang Kaenchan. There she sees a photograph of Inchampa with Kaenchan and finally learns the entire truth.
The truth is tragic: Insaworn has lost the ability to speak and move properly, kept alive only by Inchampa’s care. He suffers from a serious hereditary illness that weakens the body almost to paralysis and can be passed on to his children. When Nam Phet gave birth, he fled with the baby because he could not bear the thought of her suffering if the child inherited the disease. But the baby died just two days later. Afterward, Insaworn went to live quietly in Vientiane, where he was cared for by Mae Nang Kaenchan, Inchampa’s biological mother. Having seen Inchampa from infancy, Insaworn grew to love him like a son and adopted him.
Later, Inprasong formally made Inchampa into Insaworn’s son, but continued his womanizing ways until he took a new wife, Sroisuda, and had another son, Inkasem. Unable to endure Sroisuda’s cruelty, Kaenchan moved away to Chiang Mai. Inchampa remained by Insaworn’s side, caring for him like a true son. Insaworn transferred all his assets to Inchampa and asked only that Inchampa continue caring for him, hoping that if he ever recovered, he could go back and apologize to Nam Phet and explain everything. But his illness only grew worse.
When Inchampa later returns to visit Mae Nang Kaenchan, Atsara — now knowing the truth — angrily accuses him of lying. She rushes back and tells Nam Phet everything, causing Nam Phet’s condition to worsen again. Inchampa confronts Atsara for ruining everything, and Nam Phet falls back into her old confused, unstable state.
Meanwhile, Inkasem creates more trouble. He begins an affair with Duean Temduang, an older woman who owns a business. When she discovers that Kumaree is carrying Inkasem’s child, she pressures Kumaree to get rid of the baby. But Inkasem grows tired of Duean Temduang and instead begins getting close to Atsara. Hurt and angry, Atsara tells Inchampa to get out of both her life and Nam Phet’s life.
Inchampa returns to Vientiane. Inprasong, furious that the inheritance plan has failed, drives Insaworn out to die elsewhere. Inchampa takes Insaworn to recover with Mae Nang Kaenchan. At the same time, Inkasem learns that Kumaree is carrying his child and begins to develop real feelings for her. Then, at Kumaree’s engagement ceremony, Duean Temduang bursts in and publicly exposes Inkasem’s disgraceful behavior. She pulls a gun and shoots at Kumaree, but Inkasem throws himself in front of her.
Eventually, Inchampa returns to Bangkok once again to beg Atsara to let him continue caring for Nam Phet. Gradually her condition improves, and Inchampa tells her the full story of Insaworn. Atsara travels to Luang Prabang to verify the truth for herself. When Insaworn regains enough strength, he finally comes to see Nam Phet. The reunion brings healing and happiness. Atsara comes to understand Inchampa at last.
In the end, Nam Phet accepts Inchampa as her son and asks him to marry Atsara. At last, everyone is given a chance to begin again and find true fulfillment.
