Synopsis
Thara Himalaya is a sweeping romantic drama about a prince in danger, a country doctor who saves him, and a love that must struggle against royal tradition, political conspiracy, and social difference.
Prince Phuwanesh (Atichart Chumnanon), the perfect crown prince of the kingdom of Parawat, travels to Thailand as the representative of his kind-hearted father, King Wasuthep (Kriangkrai Unhanand). While carrying out his mission there, he becomes the target of an assassination attempt ordered by Shadun (Nopphon Komarachun), the power-hungry prime minister who wants to take the throne from Wasuthep. The attack is carried out by Samir (Prakasit Bosuwan), the police commander and Shadun’s ruthless right-hand man.
The one forced to pull the trigger is Rajeev (Mawin Taweepol), the prince’s royal bodyguard and closest friend. However, through quick thinking, Rajeev turns the crisis into an opportunity: he shoots Phuwanesh in a non-fatal spot, pretends to dispose of the body by throwing him into Tipthara, then secretly rescues him and takes him to the district hospital in Pak Chong.
There, Tipthara (Kimberley Anne Woltemas), also known as Doctor Nam, is a physician in the hospital’s neurology and brain center and becomes Phuwanesh’s attending doctor. Tipthara is one of the four extraordinary siblings of Adisuan Farm. She has three brothers:
Outwardly, Tipthara seems like a lucky young woman protected by three overbearing brothers who keep all men away from her. But in truth, she is tired of being guarded all the time and secretly longs to experience love for herself. She begins quietly developing a relationship with Napat, or Nat (Sorawit Suboon), a polished senior doctor, with her nurse best friend Priyanuch (Maneerat Kham-uan), or Pam, enthusiastically cheering her on.
Her three brothers immediately investigate Nat and unanimously conclude that he must be gay. They try to persuade Tipthara to stay away from him because they think he is the wrong kind of man for her, but she refuses to believe them. So the brothers launch a chaotic mission to prove Nat’s femininity, causing no end of headaches for Tipthara.
Meanwhile, Tipthara often hides from her brothers in Prince Phuwanesh’s special room. When he wakes up, he rambles and insists that he is the prince of Parawat. Everyone in the hospital laughs it off as delusion, but Tipthara pities him and gently tries to help him come to terms with reality — though sometimes she has to speak sharply to get through to him. Strangely, even though Phuwanesh has never yielded to anyone in his life, he finds himself obeying this foreign woman.
As Tipthara takes care of Phuwanesh, her relationship with Nat remains unsteady. What her brothers do not realize is that the more they push Nat away, the closer Tipthara and Phuwanesh grow. Through her devoted care, the two gradually develop intimacy, sympathy, and deep understanding.
Phuwanesh recovers quickly and is soon discharged from the hospital — though he continues pretending to suffer from amnesia, claiming he cannot contact any relatives. He asks Tipthara to let him work at Adisuan Farm. Out of pity, she convinces her brothers to let him stay as a worker, on one condition: he must pretend to be mute and say nothing at all.
It does not take long for Phuwanesh to adjust and find ways to stay as close to Tipthara as possible. Their closeness begins to shake her heart, but she keeps trying to restrain herself because of their difference in status. Eventually, Phuwanesh proves his identity by shaving off the beard he had used as a disguise and saying things only the prince would know. Tipthara, after confirming that his brain condition is normal and that his face perfectly matches the prince’s, realizes that the man known as Nai Pu really is the Prince of Parawat.
At the same time, Nat begins to doubt his own masculinity and confesses as much to Tipthara, saying he plans to consult a psychiatrist — much to the delight of her three brothers.
Rajeev and Varun eventually begin contacting Phuwanesh through the internet, forcing him to borrow Tipthara’s computer in secret. Many times he nearly gets caught by her brothers, and many times Tipthara nearly gives in to his charm. She becomes deeply confused by her feelings.
Then Tipthara and Phuwanesh are called to a remote mountain village to help deliver a Karen woman’s baby. Heavy rain washes out the road, trapping them there overnight. In the intimacy of that rainy night, with emotions finally ripened and Phuwanesh drunk besides, Tipthara gives herself to him.
When her three brothers learn that their beloved sister is stranded on the mountain, they all rush to the village and are furious that she has been alone with a farm worker. Tipthara insists that nothing happened, though only Wayupak notices something different and quietly keeps the secret.
Back in Parawat, news reaches Shadun and Samir that Prince Phuwanesh is still alive. They immediately send men to search the hospital. Rajeev and Varun warn Phuwanesh to flee at once. Tipthara turns to Wayupak for help, asking to hide Phuwanesh at the vineyard, and in doing so she must confess what happened that rainy night and reveal his true status. Wayupak agrees to help — but not before punching Phuwanesh squarely in the face for taking advantage of his beloved sister. He then hides the prince at the vineyard and lies to everyone that the man has quit.
Shadun’s men soon arrive at Adisuan Farm pretending to be relatives, prompting Rajeev and Varun to urge Phuwanesh to return to Parawat immediately. Tipthara chooses to go with him, with Wayupak secretly helping and hiding the fact that his sister has run away with the prince.
While in Parawat, Phuwanesh is consumed by the stress of exposing Shadun and planning to swap places with a prince double. Tipthara worries over him and tenderly looks after him, something everyone around them can see — especially Rajeev and Varun. They urge Phuwanesh to tell her as soon as possible about one harsh royal tradition: a king is allowed to marry multiple women in order to build political alliances and maintain power.
As expected, when Phuwanesh finally tells Tipthara that Parawat’s monarch may take more than one wife under longstanding custom, she is furious. She urges him to break the rule, but he lacks the courage, leaving her deeply troubled.
Meanwhile, back home, Wayupak is harshly questioned by the family after a servant at the vineyard, Nakri, gossips about everything that has happened. Forced into a corner, Wayupak confesses the entire truth. Immediately, Pathapee and Akkanee insist on rushing to Parawat — dragging Wayupak along with them.
While the three brothers are searching for Tipthara, Phuwanesh accidentally encounters them and orders Rajeev to seize them and hide them somewhere safe. The brothers misunderstand and think the police have arrested them for a crime, leaving all three in panic.
At the grand opening of Parawat’s first diamond mine, where the prince double is supposed to appear publicly, Phuwanesh’s carefully planned switch succeeds. Samir is tricked into believing the double is the real prince and kills him. But before long, Shadun realizes that the real Phuwanesh is still alive and that the wrong man has died.
As Samir rages over the mistake, he encounters Tipthara. She has accidentally learned that her three brothers are being kept in a safe house and sneaks out to find them, unaware that Samir is following her. He kidnaps her to use as leverage against Phuwanesh.
During the confrontation between Phuwanesh and Shadun, a gunfight breaks out. Shadun aims directly at the prince and fires without hesitation. In that split second, Tipthara throws herself in front of the bullet meant for Phuwanesh. The shot hits a vital area, leaving her gravely wounded.
Phuwanesh regains his composure, defeats the tyrants, and rushes Tipthara to the hospital, where he stays constantly by her side.
While Tipthara recovers, her three brothers remain with her and care for her devotedly. Everything seems as if it might finally end well — until King Wasuthep visits Tipthara and speaks to her about the great difference in status between herself and the prince. Feeling the weight of that divide, Tipthara decides to flee back to Thailand with her three brothers.
So what will become of the love between Prince Phuwanesh and Tipthara?
Will he find the courage to break royal tradition for love?
