Synopsis
Rabam Duangdao is an entertainment-industry drama about fame, jealousy, ambition, class differences, and the struggle between appearance and truth.
The entertainment world becomes electrified when Namwan enters show business. She is a beautiful, charming, foreign-educated socialite, the daughter of Pruek and Prima, owners of a luxury hotel and many affiliated companies. No one knows that her family is actually on the verge of bankruptcy. They carefully hide the truth and use Namwan’s rising fame to support and extend their business interests.
Namwan quickly stars in many dramas and becomes beloved by the public. One of the people who admires her is Wathit, the doctor who performed cosmetic surgery on her. The two share a close relationship, but Namwan sweet-talks him into keeping her surgery secret and tells the press that they are only friends.
Namwan’s life is the complete opposite of that of Mei, a humble supporting actress. Mei is an orphan who lives with Mae Kung, a kind woman who sells fried bananas and takes in several orphaned children out of generosity. Mei works tirelessly to support not only herself but also the younger children in the household — Mai, Kan, and Taew.
Meanwhile, Karun, a wealthy hotel owner, takes a liking to Mei and sincerely offers her work and support at his hotel. Mei respects him deeply. Later, she enters the entertainment industry, but only as an ordinary extra with nothing that can compare to Namwan’s star power. As for Mai, he is fortunate enough to be adopted and sent to live in England.
At the same time, Payut, the son of the owner of Thai News, has just returned from studying in America. Because he prefers a simple, ordinary life, he does not reveal his real status and instead asks his father Praiwan to let him work as a regular entertainment reporter, under the supervision of Hia Yai, the entertainment news editor.
At first, Payut is captivated by Namwan because of her beauty and the image she presents on screen. But when he meets her in person, he is deeply disappointed. Namwan is arrogant, snobbish, and looks down on others. She refuses to be interviewed by him simply because she sees him as a nobody. She even rejects a joint interview with Pong, a rising male lead, and throws tantrums at everyone.
Namwan also demands outrageously high fees. The entire production crews grow sick of her behavior, but producers such as Khun Pimol, Khun Tom, and Khun Kasama all keep quiet because Namwan still sells. No one wants trouble with a profitable star.
Only Rommanee, or Rommy, a bold and outspoken film actress who has moved into television drama, dares to stand up to her. Rommy is blunt and fearless. When Namwan shows up late to set, Rommy explodes — and Namwan fires back. The two end up slapping each other in a full-on fight. Even Ampha, Rommy’s equally sharp-tongued mother, jumps in to defend her daughter, fueling the war further. Meanwhile, Mei does her best to avoid direct conflict with Namwan.
Then Pete, a handsome young socialite who has just returned from abroad and is about to become a new leading man, falls for Mei the moment he sees her. Namwan is furious, because she has been flirting with Pete herself. She storms off to harass Mei, but Rommy teaches Mei to stand up for herself. Mei insists she wants no trouble, especially not with Namwan, because she must earn money to help her mother, who is suffering from cancer. When Rommy learns her story, the two women become genuine friends.
Even so, Namwan continues behaving recklessly, believing herself untouchable at the height of fame.
Then Mai returns from England. Women flock around him, and one of them is Namwan. When she learns that Mai is the only son of Mr. Michael and Miss Chilkoli, major international business figures, she becomes even more excited because a connection with them could benefit her family’s business. But Mai ignores her completely, because the only person he wants to find is Mei.
When Mai learns how Namwan has mistreated Mei, he decides to take revenge on Mei’s behalf by secretly filming a compromising clip with Namwan in order to damage her reputation.
Mai later tells the press that he admires Mei, which makes Payut uneasy. He worries that Mei, too, might be lured astray by wealth and status. Mei, however, insists that Mai is only like a younger brother to her. This deeply hurts Mai. Taew comforts him, and her goodness and honesty begin to touch him. Eventually, Mai announces that he is dating Taew — just as Pete publicly announces that he is going to marry Rommy.
For Namwan, this is a devastating blow. She starts to lose confidence, realizing that despite all her fame, no one truly wants her.
Desperate, Namwan digs into Mei’s past and discovers that before entering the entertainment industry, Mei once worked as a waitress, a coyote dancer, and a beer promoter. Namwan leaks this information to reporters and adds rumors that Mei has a sugar daddy. Mei suddenly finds herself facing a major scandal.
So how will Mei overcome this crisis?
And how will love, rivalry, and competition in the entertainment industry finally end?
