Synopsis
“Sai Sok” is a sweeping period family melodrama filled with inheritance disputes, buried secrets, false identities, revenge, and tragic love.
At the riverside estate known as Sai Sok, the home of Phraya Theerarath (Dilok Thongwattana), a major upheaval begins when his sworn friend Yuean (Santisuk Promsiri) brings his daughter to the house. Yuean has murdered his wife and her lover, and before taking his own life he entrusts his daughter Banyen (Kamonchanok Khameyothin) to Phraya Theerarath. He transfers over more than two thousand rai of land to him, on the condition that Banyen be raised properly and later receive part of the land when she is old enough to marry. Once Phraya Theerarath swears to it, Yuean kills himself.
Phraya Theerarath later moves to Bangkok and sends his only son Kitti (Worawut Niyomsap) abroad to study. Banyen, meanwhile, only completes lower secondary school before being pulled out and made to serve the household. This is because the lady of the house, Khun Ying, despises her: Yuean, Banyen’s father, had once been her old lover before breaking off their engagement to marry Banyen’s mother.
Phraya Theerarath does not enjoy his comfort for long. He becomes paralyzed and returns to Sai Sok, accompanied by Banyen, Phoem (Ron Banjongsang), an adopted son, as well as Whin (Pawanrat Naksuriya), the cook, and her son Dam (Puri Hiranpruk). Kitti eventually returns from abroad without finishing his education and lives as a carefree socialite. He gets Usa (Suwajanee Chaimusik) pregnant, forcing Phraya Theerarath to summon the family lawyer Jen (Panudej Wattanasuchart) and dictate a will: Banyen must legally marry Kitti and bear his child, and only then will she receive the two thousand rai of rice fields. The profits from the land are to go to Khun Ying just enough each month to support the family.
Khun Ying arranges the wedding between Banyen and Kitti, but she secretly plots with Usa to get Kitti drunk. In his place, Bai (Chatyodom Hiranyasthiti), an orphaned young man raised by Yai On (Pissamai Wilaisak), a midwife, is sent to Banyen’s bridal chamber instead. Banyen becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son at the same time Usa gives birth to a boy of her own, named Aod, later known as Kiettikorn (Pichetchai Phondi). Khun Ying then brings Chao Khun Yongyotsaruengkarn (Kriangkrai Unhanan) to Sai Sok to look for a child. When he sees Banyen’s baby, he names him Uud, later known as Yingyong (Phatchata Nampan), and takes him to Bangkok immediately, forbidding Banyen from ever being involved in his life. He will be raised as Aod’s younger brother.
Later, Banyen happens upon an abandoned infant girl and decides to raise her, naming her Saingam (Jitapa Jametthom).
Twenty years pass.
Uud graduates in engineering from Chulalongkorn University and goes to the graduation ceremony of Dendao (Kanungnij Jaksamittanon), Chao Khun Yongyot’s granddaughter. But he is accidentally pulled away by Saingam, now a medical graduate, who mistakes him for Dam. Dam, meanwhile, mistakes Dendao for Saingam. Through this confusion, the two young couples become acquainted by chance.
Aod falls in love with Dendao at first sight and rushes his parents to formally ask for her hand. Chao Khun Yongyot assumes they have come to ask for Dendao on behalf of Uud — but when he discovers it is actually for Aod, he refuses. He then takes Dendao to stay at Sai Sok. Soon, everyone follows Uud back there, including Thon (Supakorn Kitsuwan), a former prisoner newly released from jail, who goes to Sai Sok seeking revenge against Chao Khun Yongyot.
When Aod meets Saingam, he becomes infatuated with her too — more seriously than he ever was with Dendao. This causes repeated tension with Amphrika (Pimaksiporn Wingomin), the daughter of Sia O (Santi Santivejkul), who often throws pointed remarks at him.
Ever since seeing Saingam, Chao Khun Yongyot has had doubts about her identity. He questions those around Sai Sok, especially his trusted retainer Fuea, and finally learns the truth from Jen: Saingam is actually his granddaughter, the daughter of Chattraphong, his only son, who ran away with a servant girl twenty-four years earlier.
At the same time, Usa reunites with Thon, her former husband, and the two join forces, using poisonous herbal medicine to slowly paralyze both Khun Ying and Kitti. Aod grows jealous of Uud and conspires with Usa and Thon to abduct Saingam and make her his wife — but the plan goes wrong, and Aod ends up raping Amphrika instead. Usa realizes the scheme has collapsed and runs to tell Thon. Kitti sees them together and realizes they are lovers, so Thon attacks him and forces the poison down his throat, leaving him instantly paralyzed and speechless.
Driven by jealousy, Usa later goes to Saingam in tears and lies that Saingam and Uud are actually children of the same mother, begging Saingam to keep it secret so Uud will not be hurt. Saingam then agrees to marry Aod and assures Banyen that she is doing so willingly.
Meanwhile, Uud tells Dendao that he loves her only like a sister. Heartbroken, she jumps into the water to kill herself, but Dam saves her. In doing so, he ends up with a broken necklace in his hand. Then, right in the middle of Aod and Saingam’s wedding, Chao Khun Yongyot arrives and publicly announces that Saingam is truly a granddaughter of the Yongyotsaruengkarn family, supported by evidence in the form of three matching necklaces — one with him, one with Dendao, and one with Saingam.
Khun Ying later finds a note Kitti wrote before he lost the ability to speak, explaining that Usa and her lover were responsible for his condition. She throws Usa out of the house. Enraged, Usa pushes Khun Ying, knocking her unconscious. Kitti sees everything but can do nothing, and dies of shock in bed. Usa then forces poison down Khun Ying’s throat the way she once did to Kitti.
Thon, Aod, and Sia O join with Usa in a final revenge scheme against both the Theerarath and Yongyotsaruengkarn families. They plan to rob both houses during Songkran. After looting Khun Ying’s house, Thon and Usa prepare to burn it down — but are stunned when Khun Ying rises up to fight back and reveals that the “poisonous herb” she gave Usa was only ordinary tea. Uud arrives in time to help Khun Ying and finally tells her the truth about who his real parents are. She dies in his lap, while Usa perishes in the flames.
Meanwhile, Thon beats Chao Khun Yongyot savagely, blaming him for the downfall of his family, and even molests Dendao to torment him further. Unable to bear it, Chao Khun Yongyot cries out: “Do you dare violate your own daughter?” He goes on to reveal that the woman Thon loved was Dendao’s mother — and that she had never had an affair with Chattraphong at all.
At that moment, Uud and his group burst in. Sia O, Aod, and Thon open fire. Sia O and Aod escape, while Thon is gravely wounded by Bai. Dying, he finally learns the truth from Fuea, his true aunt: Chao Khun Yongyot was never the one who ruined their family. It was Thon’s own father, who gambled everything away into bankruptcy.
Dendao kneels before him and calls him father. Overcome with shame, Thon kills himself.
Later, Jen opens Khun Ying’s will and announces that she has left all her inheritance to Uud. But suddenly Aod appears in the middle of the gathering and declares that if he gets nothing, then Uud must get nothing too. He pulls out a gun and begins shooting at Uud without mercy.
So how will all this chaos finally end?
