Synopsis
Before taking his last breath, M.C. Traisak Santatiwong, the father of Alisa and Atisak, entrusted them with settling the vengeance between the Asawarat and Santatiwong families. M.C. Traisak had been falsely accused of treason by Phraya Swamiphakrat, forcing him to flee in disgrace to live at Mon Pha Luang. Atisak and Alisa firmly accepted their father's dying wish.
After World War II came to an end, Lieutenant Yothin Asawarat, the son of Phraya Swamiphakrat, became a Free Thai hero with a bright future ahead of him. He was engaged to Piromya, the daughter of Minister Ratcharit. However, his father, Phraya Swamiphakrat, was facing the imminent collapse of his maritime shipping company. Atisak took this opportunity to buy up the company's shares and offered a financial bailout. Phraya Swamiphakrat was forced to accept Atisak's condition: Yothin must go to Mon Pha Luang as a captive for one year.
Yothin had to grit his teeth, swallow his pride, and follow Atisak to Mon Pha Luang. He lied to Piromya, telling her he was going up North to handle his father's business. The Santatiwong family finally got their long-awaited revenge. Both Atisak and Alisa took every opportunity to oppress Yothin in his capacity as a captive. However, Yothin's capabilities and kindness won over the hearts of the workers at Mon Pha Luang. No matter how Alisa tried to bully him, Yothin always managed to overcome her tricks, earning him the great admiration of Anon.
Atisak then ordered Yothin to become Anon's teacher. Alisa frequently mocked Yothin for lying to Piromya and hiding the fact that he was the Santatiwongs' captive. Yothin retorted sarcastically that Alisa would never understand because she was someone who didn't know how to love. Furious, Alisa deliberately ordered Yothin to deliver a letter to Chiang Rat within a single day. She wanted Yothin to know that she had a lover: Prince Kwanfah of Chiang Rat. Alisa was highly confident in Kwanfah's love, completely unaware that although he loved her, he was a playboy who flirted with women everywhere. He had countless wives in his palace, including Inwilai, a female relative whom his mother wanted as a daughter-in-law, and even Sibo, Alisa's own close maid, who had once been his mistress.
Irritated by Yothin's arrogance, Alisa spitefully ordered him to pick up a trunk of clothes in town. Yothin got caught in heavy rain and had a grueling journey. But when he finally delivered the trunk, Alisa callously ordered it thrown away just because the clothes were slightly stained. The exhaustion caused Yothin to collapse and fall ill. Alisa began to feel guilty, but Yothin was too proud to accept pity from an enemy.
Atisak escalated his torment of Yothin by inviting Minister Ratcharit, his wife Sisawang, and Piromya for a vacation at Mon Pha Luang. Piromya finally ran into Yothin, who was left speechless and deeply ashamed. Piromya only knew that Yothin was there as Atisak's guest. When Prince Kwanfah also arrived at Mon Pha Luang, Alisa threw a welcome party for everyone. Because Piromya insisted, Yothin was forced to attend the banquet. Piromya arranged for Yothin to dance with Alisa, while she herself danced with Kwanfah. Kwanfah hung around the Minister in hopes of gaining personal benefits. Piromya urged Yothin to join them on a trip around the North. Along the way, Yothin was constantly mocked by Alisa, making him fail to notice that Kwanfah was growing increasingly intimate with Piromya.
Sibo secretly went to see Prince Kwanfah, but he completely ignored her. Sibo threatened to tell Alisa that Kwanfah had previously taken her as a wife. Kwanfah had to use his charm to shut her up temporarily. Meanwhile, Piromya secretly visited Yothin at his cabin and found a letter from Phraya Swamiphakrat, revealing Yothin's true status as a captive. Furious, Piromya broke off her engagement to Yothin and turned to Kwanfah instead.
The party and the trip concluded. Atisak returned to Bangkok and found that Phraya Swamiphakrat was ill, so he allowed Yothin to go to Bangkok to visit his father. Yothin numbly received the news that Piromya had married Kwanfah. Kwanfah was forced to marry her because he had gotten her pregnant. Piromya was frustrated by Kwanfah's coldness and, out of jealousy toward Alisa, threw away a wedding gift from her. This infuriated Kwanfah, but due to the Minister's influence, he had to accept Piromya living in Chiang Rat, even though he still couldn't get over Alisa. Sibo, resentful that Kwanfah had married Piromya, stormed into Chiang Rat and proposed a plan to kidnap Alisa, under the condition that Kwanfah must take Sibo back as his wife.
Kwanfah followed Sibo's plan, forging a letter from Piromya to lure Alisa out to meet him. Meanwhile, Atisak had a bad premonition and begged Yothin to return to Mon Pha Luang to look after Alisa in his stead. However, Yothin arrived too late. Kwanfah had already captured Alisa and Anon and held them at Pha Pu Chao (Pu Chao Cliff). Alisa was furious at Sibo's betrayal but tried to find a way to escape. She had Anon sneak into the vehicle of Kwanfah's men heading to the palace to tell Piromya what happened. After delivering the message to Piromya, Anon coincidentally bumped into Yothin, who had tracked them to Chiang Rat. Yothin and Anon devised an escape plan. Kwanfah attempted to force himself on Alisa but failed when Anon intervened. Late at night, Yothin sneaked into Pha Pu Chao, with Piromya secretly following him.
Piromya went looking for Kwanfah but ran into Inwilai first. The two women got into a physical fight, which caused Piromya to suffer a miscarriage. In a fit of sheer rage, Piromya shot and killed Inwilai. Meanwhile, Yothin went in to rescue Alisa but was blocked by Kwanfah. Kwanfah was about to shoot Yothin, but Alisa managed to grab a gun and aimed it at Kwanfah. Suddenly, Sibo lunged forward with a knife, aiming to stab Alisa. Kwanfah jumped in the way to protect her and was fatally stabbed by Sibo instead. Devastated that she had accidentally killed Kwanfah, Sibo used the very same knife to take her own life.
Yothin led Alisa and Anon in an escape. The men from Chiang Rat pursued them relentlessly. The three had to scale down a cliff and wade across a river with immense difficulty until they finally ran into Atisak's men. Yothin took Alisa and Anon to rest at a farmer's house. When the Chiang Rat men came to search the house, the two had to hide together in a cow pen. This close proximity made them more intimate, and their feelings for each other began to change. They eventually made it back to Mon Pha Luang safely.
Atisak decided to tear up the captive contract to repay Yothin for saving Alisa's life. However, Yothin was furious that Atisak and Alisa had made this decision without asking him first. Yothin lashed out at Alisa in a way he never had before. Out of spite, Yothin rode his horse out of Mon Pha Luang the very next morning without saying goodbye to anyone. Along the way, Alisa rode after him, which finally softened Yothin's heart. The two confessed their true feelings to one another. Yothin promised that he would return to Mon Pha Luang again—but next time, not as a captive. Alisa promised that she would wait for him until that day came.
