The Tragedy of 1989

In 1989, at Khum Sai Kham in Chiang Mai, Mae Liang Sai Kham, a wealthy silk weaving business owner, hosts a traditional Khantoke dinner for her birthday. The highlight is a Forn Leb (fingernail dance) featuring Euang Jan, a local beauty pursued by many men, including Khwan Mueang, the husband of Sai Kham’s eldest daughter, Duen Ward.
Meanwhile, the youngest daughter, Pimdao, is betrothed to Warun, a handsome young nobleman. Sai Kham intends to announce their marriage at the party, but Warun confesses he is actually in love with Euang Jan. Enraged, Sai Kham and Pimdao plot revenge. That night, Warun plans to elope with Euang Jan. He sends Jun, the son of Euang Jan's friend Malai, to tell her to wait at the silk factory.
When Euang Jan arrives, she is struck over the head and knocked unconscious by Sai Kham and Pimdao. They take her into the forest to kill her, but she regains consciousness and escapes, only to run into Khwan Mueang, who tries to rape her. To hide, Euang Jan climbs into an ancient silk chest. Duen Ward, searching for her husband, catches him acting suspiciously near the chest. Realizing Euang Jan is inside, Duen Ward assumes she was there for a tryst with Khwan Mueang. In a fit of jealous rage, she locks the chest.
Despite Euang Jan’s desperate screams, Duen Ward orders her confidant, Bunta, to dump the chest into the swamp behind the estate. When young Jun witnesses the crime, Duen Ward orders Bunta to kill him and throw his body into the swamp as well. In her final moments of struggle, Euang Jan manages to snatch Duen Ward’s ruby necklace before the chest sinks. Warun is ambushed and knocked unconscious; when he wakes to find Euang Jan missing, Sai Kham lies and says she ran away with another man. Devastated, Warun disappears. Malai goes insane with grief over her son's death. The only witness is Oui Tha, a drunken caretaker who stays silent out of fear. The factory is boarded up, and the family moves to Bangkok.

The Return in 2007

In 2007, Sai Mai, the daughter of Khwan Mueang and Duen Ward, graduates and decides to turn the old family estate in Chiang Mai into a boutique homestay, despite her family's protests. She travels there with her friend Dim Sum and meets Phansa, a young police officer recently transferred to the area who is immediately smitten with her.
At the estate, they find a derelict atmosphere. Sai Mai begins having visions of a young boy (Jun’s spirit) beckoning her toward the swamp. Strange occurrences plague the house: the sound of traditional drums, weaving looms moving by themselves, and cries for help in the Northern Thai dialect.
One day, while exploring the old factory with a local businessman named Rawat (who secretly wants to steal the land), Sai Mai is mysteriously pushed into an ancient chest and trapped. Phansa rescues her just in time. Later, the spirit of Jun pulls Sai Mai underwater—not to drown her, but to lead her to the truth.
Phansa and his partner dive into the swamp and recover a large, locked silk chest. Inside, they find the skeletal remains of a woman in traditional dance attire, brass fingernails, and a Thai ruby. As a murder investigation begins, rumors spread that the ghost of Euang Jan is haunting the village.

The Revenge

Rawat tries to scare Sai Mai away by hiring a villager to pose as the ghost, but the real spirit of Euang Jan kills him. Sensing the danger, Duen Ward has Bunta perform a ritual to suppress the spirit and burn the chest. They believe the ghost is gone, but Euang Jan’s spirit has actually possessed Sai Mai.
Phansa visits his foster father, Luang Phor Warun (the former lover of Euang Jan who became a monk), and learns the dark history of the family. He realizes Sai Mai is in grave danger.
The story culminates at a high-profile silk fashion show in Bangkok. As the music plays, a large silk chest on stage opens. Instead of a model, Sai Mai emerges—possessed by Euang Jan—ready to exact bloody vengeance on everyone who wronged her. Phansa must now find a way to save Sai Mai’s soul before she claims her next victim.
