Sang Thong

Long ago, King Yosawimon ruled over the city of Prommanakhon. He had two queens: the right queen, Chantevi, and the left queen, Chantha. Both queens became pregnant, and the royal astrologer predicted that the right queen would give birth to a son, while the left queen would have a daughter.
When the time came, Queen Chantevi gave birth to a conch shell instead of a human child. Seizing the opportunity, Queen Chantha falsely accused her, causing King Phrommathat to believe the slander and banish Queen Chantevi from the palace.
Chantevi wandered in hardship until she reached the edge of a forest, where an elderly couple took pity on her and offered her shelter.
One day, Chantevi went out to help the couple gather vegetables and firewood. While she was away, the child inside the conch shell emerged in human form, cleaned the house, and prepared food. When finished, he returned to the shell as before. When Chantevi came back, she was puzzled about who had done the chores. Curious, she pretended to leave again the next day but secretly returned to watch.
She then saw her son emerge from the shell as a human. Overjoyed, she broke the shell and embraced him. She named him “Sangthong” (The Golden Conch).
