Kham Muan, a young Lao woman, was in love with Jimmy, a foreigner living in Laos as a spy. After completing his mission, Jimmy promised Kham Muan that he would return to ask for her hand in marriage. Thao Thongbai took Kham Muan to live in Paksen Noi so that she would not be embarrassed in front of the neighbors.
Twenty years later, Champa had grown into a beautiful young woman of mixed heritage. She managed Thao Thongbai’s homestay as a tour guide, with help from her cousin Sadao. Phin, the son of Father Ken, was a musician who played the khaen beautifully in Kru Saman’s choir, Siang Sawan. Phin met Champa when she brought a tour group to the stupa festival in Nakhon Phanom. He fell in love with her at first sight and began persistently pursuing her.
