Orurin, a young salt-farming girl, was more beautiful than anyone else in her village—so much so that she seemed more like the daughter of a wealthy or noble family than a common villager like Um. Orurin worked as a laborer on the salt fields for Khun Somying, a wealthy landowner.
Orurin had once asked about her father, but Um only hinted that he was an irresponsible man who had once caused her pain. This left Orurin with a deep-seated insecurity about her father. Despite this, she was naturally optimistic—a trait that often made her vulnerable to exploitation by others. Among those who took advantage of her were Nitiphum (Boy), who harassed her with words and gestures, and Nicha, a classmate who competed with Orurin in beauty.
Orurin, however, had Naradee (Taew) as her ally, helping her stand up to Boy and Nicha. Taew and Um worried that Orurin’s trusting nature and optimism might lead her into danger, but Orurin insisted that she wanted to overcome those who harbored ill intentions with goodness.
One day, while collecting razor clams to sell, Orurin met Athikan (Big). They disliked each other at first sight, but she later learned that Big and Boy were both grandchildren of Khun Somying. While Boy continued to bully and harass Orurin, Big intervened to restrain him and even apologized to Orurin on his brother’s behalf.
Orurin began to admire Big for respecting a poor girl like her. Big, in turn, recognized the goodness in Orurin and gradually fell in love with her.
