Synopsis
This sweeping romantic drama begins one day before World War II, when three best friends—Chen Yi Ting, Sunee, and Malee—join an anti-Japanese protest in Shanghai, unaware that war is about to break out. Yi Ting’s father, General Chen Du Feng, urgently orders the family to evacuate. In the chaos, Yi Ting is left behind, with only Ah Kiu, a loyal orphaned servant boy, helping her escape with tickets to Hong Kong.
After losing their money to Yi Ting’s stepmother, the three girls survive by retrieving hidden gold left by Yi Ting’s late family and manage to flee safely to Hong Kong. From there, they journey on foot back to Thailand with a group of Thai travelers. Along the way, they are joined by Ah Kiu and Zhang Xiamen, forming a bond that lasts a lifetime. The five friends swear that if they have children, their families will unite through marriage.
57 years later, their promise remains unfulfilled—until the next generation.
Yi Ting has a granddaughter, Monprapa. Sunee and Malee each have grandsons—Wasu and Warakorn—while Ah Kiu and Xiamen’s descendants include Araya and Panit. The elders now plan to unite their grandchildren through marriage.
Monprapa, Wasu, and Thanee (another young man in their circle) reunite by chance. Wasu doesn’t recognize Monprapa at first, as she has transformed into a beautiful woman from the awkward girl he once knew. Though initially dismissive—especially since he arrives with his girlfriend Laura—Wasu gradually begins to regret his past behavior when he realizes Monprapa had loved him for years.
As emotions deepen, love triangles form:
Meanwhile, long-buried family secrets resurface. Robert (Chen Zhong Ping), a relative from America, returns to apologize for past betrayals and restore Yi Ting’s inheritance, including a textile factory. This leads to reconciliation among the older generation.
In the end:
The story closes on a heartfelt note: while the older generation could never bring themselves to say the words, the younger generation finally does—
“Wor Ai Nee” — I love you.
