Synopsis
While traveling in Myanmar during a period of armed conflict, Lalita and her friends are rescued by a man named Phabo, who safely escorts them to the border. This encounter marks the beginning of a deep friendship. Phabo is a member of the Pga K'nyau (Karen) people, living in a minority community along the banks of the Salween River. Utilizing his knowledge of chemistry, he produces herbal cosmetics made from Thanakha.
Lalita is the daughter of Lalit, a prominent businessman, and Amphon, who runs a herbal beauty salon. Interested in the properties of Thanakha, Amphon enlists the help of Pholiang Suraphong—a timber and furniture trader who secretly deals in illegal logging and narcotics—to find a reliable source in Myanmar. Suraphong introduces Amphon to Tun May on the Myanmar side.
Later, Lalita is sent to handle the trade alone, allowing her and Phabo to grow closer until their mutual admiration blossoms into love. Tun May attempts to intervene in their relationship but fails. When Lalita becomes pregnant, her parents are furious and demand her return, but she refuses. She gives birth to a daughter named Miyawadi (also known as Mei).
Eventually, Pholiang Suraphong brings news that Lalit is terminally ill and wishes to see his daughter one last time. Upon her return to Bangkok, Amphon begs Lalita not to leave again, citing the potential ruin of the family's reputation and threatening to disown her. Trapped by duty, Lalita remains in Bangkok, marries a man named Thanet, and has another daughter, Nampetch.
Phabo travels to find Lalita but is devastated to discover she has already remarried. He hides her photographs away and dedicates his life to raising their daughter, teaching her combat skills and weaponry. Whenever the young girl asks about her mother, Phabo tells her that she passed away the day Miyawadi was born.
