Phuchong meets Jimmy and Muay at a temple fair, though they are not close at first. One day, after Jimmy accidentally crashes his bicycle into Phuchong and loses his pet mouse, Phuchong helps him find it, and the two become friends. Later, Phuchong helps Muay, an adopted girl being bullied, which deeply touches her. The three children soon bond and promise to be best friends, dreaming of building a home together by the beach.
Meanwhile, Jimmy discovers that Passara, Bob’s girlfriend, is secretly having an affair with Kay. He, along with Phuchong and Muay, tries to investigate but ends up getting locked in a garage. After escaping, each child faces trouble at home—Muay is abused, and Phuchong learns that his mother, whom he believed dead, is actually alive.
The three children run away to Bangkok in search of Phuchong’s mother. Along the way, they encounter danger, are tricked and robbed, and are forced to live under a bridge. They later find temporary shelter at a temple, where they meet Monk Prawat and Uncle Wang, who care for them. However, they face bullying from other children there.
Despite hardships, their friendship grows stronger—especially when Muay works to earn food for her friends. Eventually, they find temporary refuge in a suspicious house run by a man named Man, where darker activities are secretly taking place.
At the same time, Police Officer Wut is investigating a human trafficking case linked to this house. Together with Ann, a child welfare worker, they try to help both the victims and the runaway children.
Phuchong eventually meets his mother, Ratree, but she refuses to acknowledge him, believing she cannot give him a better life. Heartbroken, Phuchong nearly takes his own life, but Jimmy and Muay remind him that he is still loved, saving him.
Later, during a journey back home to Phuket with Wut and Ann, they are chased and attacked by criminals. A car crash occurs—though most survive, Muay is critically injured and ultimately passes away.
Her death devastates Phuchong and Jimmy. They hold a funeral for her, expressing their love and grief. In the end, Phuchong reunites with his family, and Jimmy returns home as well.
To honor Muay, Phuchong and Jimmy go to the beach she loved and draw the house they once dreamed of—symbolizing that, in their hearts, they will always be together.
Best Friends is a touching story of friendship, hardship, love, and loss.
