Madi is a beautiful 18-year-old girl with eight siblings: Madi, Mada, Boonman, Boonkhwan, Marasri, Malaree, Dang Noi, and Dang Nid. Living in Isan in extreme poverty, Madi must carry the entire burden of the family because her parents, Yun and Ngiao, are addicted to alcohol and gambling.
When a new road is constructed through the local market, Madi applies to be a construction worker in her father's place. There, she meets Ayut, a kind-hearted site supervisor from the Department of Highways who is loved by everyone. Madi’s bright personality and love for singing bring joy to the worksite, and Ayut begins to admire her secretly.
The plot thickens when Ayut saves Lorluck, the wife of his close friend Theera, from a suicide attempt following the loss of her family. Out of a sense of responsibility, Ayut takes care of her, but Lorluck becomes mentally unstable and obsessively jealous, believing Madi is trying to steal Ayut away.
Rising Conflicts
When the local leader, Nikon, enters Madi into a sub-district beauty pageant, Lorluck cannot stand seeing a beautiful rival. She plots with Pholphot and Saeng to kidnap Madi, but Ayut and Jongjet arrive just in time to rescue her. Despite her "good-for-nothing" parents, Madi raises her siblings to be hardworking, with Ayut supporting her and even taking her to the city for exams. Their bond deepens, though neither is certain of the other's feelings.
Things take a dark turn when Yun reports Ayut to the police for kidnapping and detaining Madi, hoping to force Ayut into "taking responsibility" (marriage) for her. Out of respect for Ayut, Madi refuses to let him be blamed for something he didn't do. After being brutally punished by her father for her defiance, she flees home.
From Nanny to Rising Star
Madi finds work as a nanny for a famous singer, Wiyada. Her natural talent allows her to mimic Wiyada’s voice perfectly. When Wiyada falls ill and cannot perform, Madi sings from behind a curtain while Wiyada lip-syncs on stage. Wiyada eventually molds Madi into a "voice-double" singer under the stage name "Maladee."
One night, while entertaining guests after a show, Madi is shocked to see Ayut. Disappointed to see her in such an environment, Ayut leaves immediately. Though he confesses his love for Madi to Jongjet, he feels it is too late. Ayut becomes cold and irritable, believing Madi has lost her way. Misunderstandings escalate when news breaks that Madi is to marry a man named Sanong (arranged by Wiyada), leading Ayut to impulsively get engaged to Wiphawee, a village headman’s daughter.
The Path Back Home
Heartbroken, Madi is tricked into drinking by Sanong and wakes up in the arms of Sanguan, leaving her devastated. However, after earning her degree, Madi decides to start over in her hometown as a teacher at "Dek Dee School." Her dedication to her students becomes a major news story on Channel 3.
Seeing the news, Ayut and Wiphawee realize they both love other people. Wiyada also comes forward to clear the air, revealing that Sanong never actually violated Madi that night. Finally, Mada and Jongjet hatch a plan to reunite the couple. After one last misunderstanding that sends Madi running away, Ayut tracks her down. He finds her at home and promises to stay by her side to finish building their "highway of love" together.
