Synopsis
Daniel, a Thai-American young man, travels to Thailand with his father’s journal in search of his mother. There, he is helped by friends he met online—Issara and her three friends: Patamawadee, Namchai, and Pinnanong—who run a travel website together. They decide to help Daniel trace his mother.
Their journey begins at the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, places sketched in his father’s journal. There, a mysterious antique fan belonging to Pimpat (another of Issara’s friends) acts as a gateway through time, transporting Daniel, Issara, and Pimpat back to the reign of King Rama V.
In this past era, Daniel meets Tubtim, a Thai woman he falls in love with at first sight. However, their love faces opposition from Tubtim’s father, Phraya Phithak Khetkhan, who cannot accept their relationship due to differences in era and culture. Soon, the time portal opens again, revealing a vision of a sorrowful middle-aged woman sitting in a prayer room. The trio is then pulled back to the present.
Haunted by the vision, Daniel continues searching for answers. They meet Grandma Pudsorn, an elderly woman around 80 years old, who seems to recognize Daniel and Issara. When Daniel describes the woman from the vision, she mentions the name Wichanee but refuses to revisit the past.
Later, during a struggle over the fan, Daniel, Issara, and Pimpat are transported again—this time to 1975. There, Daniel meets his parents, David and Wichanee, and witnesses their tragic love story. Wichanee’s father, who harbors resentment toward foreigners, separates her from David and their infant son—Daniel. Despite Daniel’s attempts, he cannot change the past.
Through the power of the fan, Daniel realizes that the sorrowful woman he saw is his mother, Wichanee, who was imprisoned by her father and eventually died of heartbreak.
The trio is then returned to the era of King Rama V once more. Daniel learns that Tubtim is about to be married off, so he secretly meets her. They exchange tokens of love—he gives her his engraved bracelet, and she gives him her outer shawl. They plan to elope during the Loy Krathong festival at Khlong Lod.
However, fate intervenes. Before he can meet her, Daniel is pulled back to the present by the time portal, leaving Tubtim waiting in vain.
Heartbroken, Daniel is comforted by his friends. They take him to the Loy Krathong festival at Khlong Lod, where he encounters a woman speaking to tourists through a megaphone. To his shock, she looks exactly like Tubtim. Her name is Rattanamanee, which means “ruby” (just like Tubtim), and she wears the same bracelet Daniel once gave—an heirloom passed down through her family.
