Synopsis
At the start of every school term, Paeng has a mission: to enter gambling dens. Even though he dislikes gambling, he does it to earn money to help underprivileged children in the community under the care of his mother, Teacher Saijai. He does everything in secret.
Teacher Saijai dreams of building a proper school for the children, but it remains an unreachable hope—unlike gambling dens, which exist everywhere, big and small. She hates gambling, especially the “Si Mum Mueang” den, though she cannot fully explain why to Paeng.
One day, Paeng is forced to enter that very den for a government-related matter, and chaos ensues.
Every April, Paeng and his best friend Moo Yor, motorcycle taxi drivers at the entrance of Nam Sai Jai Dee community, carry out their mission: using Paeng’s natural gambling talent—an ability inherited from his father, a legendary gambler known as “The Thousand-Hand Master”—to win money. Paeng uses the winnings to pay school fees for talented but disadvantaged children in the community.
Paeng often thinks, “There are so many gambling dens in this country—if they were turned into schools, the nation would prosper so much more.” But when asked where he’s going, he jokingly says he’s off to “launder money.”
During one visit to a gambling den, while Paeng is on a winning streak, he overhears staff planning to deal with an undercover police officer posing as a gambler. Paeng escapes along with the young officer, Man, while instructing Moo Yor to grab as much money as possible.
Meanwhile, Pim, a young woman from a wealthy family, has a fierce argument with her father. Feeling unloved compared to her brother Patch, she drives off aimlessly and accidentally crashes near Teacher Saijai. Saijai helps her, and Pim feels a warmth she hasn’t experienced since her mother passed away.
Man, the police officer, recognizes Paeng’s intelligence and cunning. Things might have gone smoothly if Moo Yor hadn’t mistakenly taken casino chips instead of cash, forcing Paeng to find new ways to earn money.
Paeng later returns home and meets Pim, instantly captivated by her beauty but too shy to speak. Meanwhile, Teacher Saijai worries because the foundation that used to support the children hasn’t sent money this year—unaware that Paeng has been secretly providing it.
Paeng hides his gambling activities because his mother hates it and often reminds him, “Gambling is evil—and your father died because of it.”
With no other choice, Paeng and Moo Yor return to gambling, this time targeting bigger, riskier dens.
Pim, inspired by Teacher Saijai, decides to help the community and becomes a volunteer teacher. The children quickly adore her. Her reputation spreads, even reaching Hia Mong, a local thug who falls in love with her at first sight and tries to reform himself to impress her.
Meanwhile, Paeng struggles with his feelings for Pim, practicing conversations in front of a mirror. But when he sees another man picking her up, jealousy gets the better of him, and he lashes out.
Hia Mong, frustrated that Pim won’t accept him, plots to kidnap her—but Paeng, Moo Yor, and the villagers rescue her in time.
Trouble escalates when Teacher Saijai is severely injured in a car accident and needs expensive surgery. Pim helps with initial medical costs, but Paeng and Moo Yor soon run into enemies from a previous gambling den. To escape the mafia, Paeng cleverly turns himself in to the police on a false theft charge.
At the same time, Officer Man is at risk of being dismissed due to poor performance. He offers Paeng a deal: become a police informant. Paeng initially refuses but eventually agrees when he desperately needs money for his mother’s treatment.
Thus begins Paeng’s mission as an undercover informant, targeting the powerful gambling empire of crime lord Krajap Thong, who owns four major dens.
Paeng proves invaluable, gathering crucial intelligence. Man devises a plan: disguise Paeng as a businessman, Moo Yor as his bodyguard, and recruit Pim as a secretary due to her fluent English.
Their first raid fails when Krajap Thong catches on. But Paeng has another plan:
“If the law can’t bring him down… then I will.”
His goal: bankrupt Krajap Thong completely.
The mission culminates at the final and largest den—“Krajap Thong Casino.” Paeng challenges the crime lord directly. After defeating two of his top gamblers, the real Krajap Thong finally steps in.
Will Paeng defeat him and achieve his lifelong dream?
What will happen to his love with Pim?
And what future awaits the Nam Sai Jai Dee community?
Find out in “Skill or No Skill… Doesn’t Matter.”
