Synopsis

When Chatchom opens a restaurant business, his wife Thawika reaches the peak of her frustration. Bored with her marriage, she begins going out frequently, partying with a younger male model and openly bringing him back to her condo, ignoring gossip.
Meanwhile, Chatchom grows closer to Praiprae, which enrages Thawika. She returns home only to argue and physically fight with Praiprae, leaving their young daughter, Namtaan, emotionally traumatized. Despite this, Thawika continues neglecting her child, blaming Chatchom’s aunt and his sister Anchalee for being burdens that force him to work endlessly—though she herself has never truly cared for her daughter.
Anchalee hires Chalasai as a night cashier at the restaurant. Chalasai has admired Chatchom since childhood, even keeping letters he once wrote as a DJ. She dreams of working hard, finishing her education, and eventually taking her mother away from the abusive household of Boworn, a cruel man they are forced to serve. Though Boworn has abused others in the house, including servants and even Chalasai’s mother, Chalasai has somehow been spared.
Chatchom’s family appreciates Chalasai’s diligence and kindness, and her presence brings a small sense of happiness back into his life.
However, when Praiprae meets Chalasai, she becomes jealous and plots to humiliate her. She forces Chalasai into a waitress outfit during a photoshoot at the restaurant meant to provoke Thawika. Ironically, the photographer, Mes, becomes captivated by Chalasai’s natural beauty and invites her into modeling.
As tensions escalate, Praiprae manipulates Thawika into helping eliminate Chalasai, while secretly collaborating with Boworn to trap Thawika. Meanwhile, Tomorn—Praiprae’s lover—hires thugs to destroy Chatchom’s restaurant, forcing him to start over.
Eventually, Thawika divorces Chatchom, despite her parents’ objections, seeing him as worthless compared to Boworn, who constantly flatters her. Chalasai repeatedly tries to protect Thawika from Boworn, but Thawika’s stubbornness leads her into his control, even marrying him.
Under Boworn’s influence, Thawika drives everyone out of the house. Chatchom, Chalasai, and a servant named Kamlai move out and live together. However, Kamlai secretly returns to Boworn despite his abuse. In a moment of madness, Kamlai pushes Thawika into the water, but Chatchom intervenes and rescues her, also helping Kamlai escape Boworn.
Mes later helps Chalasai and Kamlai start a small curry business. But when Chatchom rebuilds his restaurant, he asks Chalasai to return to work with him. Heartbroken that Chalasai does not love him, Mes—manipulated by Tomorn—loses control and abducts her, attempting to take her to a motel. Chalasai escapes and calls Chatchom for help.
Meanwhile, Boworn, unable to use his marriage to control Thawika’s family, becomes enraged and brutally assaults her. Desperate, Thawika calls her sister for help, but she cannot enter the house.
Knowing Boworn’s violent nature, Chatchom reveals a dark secret: Boworn had murdered and buried his previous wife in the house. Armed with this knowledge, they attempt to rescue Thawika.
However, Thawika’s jealousy resurfaces—she believes Boworn is meeting Kamlai romantically, which ruins their plan. A violent confrontation breaks out. In the end, Kamlai and Boworn kill each other.
The story concludes as a powerful reflection of social and family issues—love, betrayal, abuse, and the consequences of toxic relationships—in “Second-Hand Man.”
