Synopsis
In a bustling rural fresh market, Baitong (played by Chermarn Boonyasak) weaves her fruit cart through narrow paths toward her employer Taoke Song’s shop. She maneuvers with a reckless, heart-stopping speed, ringing her bell incessantly and forcing shoppers to scramble out of her way.
Nearby, three thieves are preparing to rob a vendor. Baitong spots them and lets out a pointed cough before boldly preaching the Second Precept of Buddhism—the prohibition against stealing—to the trio. One of the thieves is ready to attack her, but his accomplice holds him back, gesturing toward two newcomers stepping out of a car.
The arrivals are Worawut, a retired high-ranking government official, and his wife, who have come to town on land-related business. The couple heads into a gold and jewelry shop to buy a gift for their daughter. Meanwhile, Baitong crashes her fruit cart into the shop, sending Taoke Song tumbling backward. After being scolded for her clumsiness, she is ordered to go prepare eggs for delivery to market vendors.
As Worawut and his wife exit the jewelry store, the three thieves strike, snatching their valuables and fleeing toward Taoke Song’s shop. Follow the story further in Luk Sao Mae Oei.
