Khon Rerng Muang

Set shortly before World War II, the story follows Pring, a woman whose beauty lives up to her name (which means "exquisite"). After her parents passed away during her childhood, she was raised by an eldest sister who was harsh and physically abusive.
A Beauty Unbound
Khun Prathiap, a distant relative’s wife, took pity on Pring and brought her in to raise her. A traditional Thai lady of high standards, Prathiap tried her best to train Pring in the domestic arts and the refined manners of a proper lady. However, Pring showed no interest. She would listen half-heartedly but never took the lessons to heart.
As Pring blossomed into a young woman, her stunning looks became undeniable. She discovered a thrill in flirting and catching the eyes of local men—a habit born from a deep-seated need for affection and validation (the result of her childhood trauma).
The First Marriage
Fearing that Pring’s flirtatious nature would eventually bring shame to the household, Khun Prathiap pressured her into a marriage with Dr. Phinit, a frequent visitor who had long been enchanted by Pring’s charms. At just 16 years old, Pring wed her first husband, a man 20 years her senior.
Married life was far from peaceful. Pring’s mother-in-law despised her, viewing the young bride as far from the ideal, submissive Thai wife. Unlike traditional women who endured a mother-in-law’s mistreatment in silence, Pring was bold and defiant, frequently talking back without fear. Eventually, she even began to dominate her husband.
The most tragic figure in this chapter of her life was Dr. Phinit. While things seemed promising at first, the constant stress and headaches caused by his young wife’s behavior eventually led to a fatal stroke. He passed away, leaving Pring widowed and pregnant with their child.
