Synopsis

Mae Yai Tee Rak (My Beloved Mother-in-Law) is the story of Wanrop, a newly graduated architect working at Pachar Architect Company, who is in love with Matree, his university friend and fellow architect. Wanrop is certain that Matree is the woman he wants to build a future with, and she feels the same. However, there is one major obstacle to their relationship—Matree’s mother, Khunying Tiraka, a fierce, strict, and extremely protective woman who owns a famous jar business in Ratchaburi. Wanrop even nicknames her “the devil fish-sauce jar” because of her intimidating nature.
Tiraka loves her daughter dearly and guards her fiercely. When Wanrop enters Matree’s life, a full-blown “love war” erupts between the future mother-in-law and son-in-law. Despite this, Wanrop refuses to give up and tries everything to win Tiraka’s approval. However, Tiraka is determined to keep them apart and constantly creates obstacles. She even brings in Thongchan, a wealthy man from Ratchaburi who already likes Matree, hoping to break the couple apart—but he fails.
Frustrated, Wanrop consults his senior friend Rachanont and his boss Pachar. Under the influence of alcohol, they jokingly suggest he should force the situation to pressure Tiraka into accepting the marriage. Wanrop disagrees, but Matree takes matters into her own hands. She secretly drugs Wanrop with sleeping pills and stages a situation to make Tiraka believe they have already been intimate—though in reality, nothing happened.
Tiraka is furious, as her reaction is rooted in her painful past. When she was young, she became pregnant by a man who abandoned her to study abroad. Heartbroken, she nearly destroyed herself, but a kind man, Doctor Phon, stepped in and took responsibility. Because of this trauma, Tiraka swears she will never allow Wanrop to marry her daughter. She demands a dowry of ten million baht as a condition for marriage, though in truth she only wants to delay and separate them.
Later, in another drunken moment, Pachar suggests that Rachanont should try courting Tiraka himself. Since he is still single and close in age to her, if he becomes her husband, it would make things easier for Wanrop. Rachanont agrees impulsively. However, when he meets Tiraka, chaos erupts—she pulls out a shotgun and tries to shoot him. The situation escalates further when she later actually shoots and injures him, forcing Wanrop to rush him to the hospital.
Eventually, the truth comes out: Rachanont is the man from Tiraka’s past—the one who got her pregnant and left. He suspects that Matree is his daughter. Matree is shocked and refuses to accept this, having always believed Doctor Phon was her real father. After confronting her mother, Tiraka finally reveals the truth. Matree is devastated and rejects Rachanont.
Despite this, Rachanont vows to win Tiraka back and reclaim his role as Matree’s father. Meanwhile, more complications arise. Tiraka becomes involved with Somphop, a flirtatious businessman who deceives her, while Thongchan continues trying to win Matree. Wanrop and Thongchan frequently clash, and misunderstandings keep growing.
At one point, Tiraka gets into an accident and loses her memory. Strangely, she only remembers Rachanont as someone she deeply loves. Taking advantage of this, Rachanont stays close to her, much to Matree’s disapproval. Tensions rise as Matree tries to protect her mother, while Wanrop attempts to mediate.
Eventually, Tiraka regains her memory but pretends not to, wanting to test Rachanont’s sincerity. His genuine love softens her heart. Meanwhile, Wanrop stages a kidnapping scenario to force them to reconcile. In the chaos, Rachanont confesses that he never stopped loving Tiraka and had intended to reunite with her all along. The family finally reconciles and becomes whole again.
Just when things seem settled, a new problem arises—Wanrop is accused of getting another woman, Krathin, pregnant. Matree is heartbroken and calls off their engagement. Wanrop denies it, and with Rachanont’s support, they go to uncover the truth. It turns out Krathin is not actually pregnant, clearing Wanrop’s name.
However, conflicts continue as Somphop, Thongchan, and others conspire to break the couple apart through deception and manipulation, causing further misunderstandings between Tiraka, Matree, and Wanrop.
And the story continues with whether love can overcome all these obstacles…
