Synopsis
La-ong Thet tells the story of Duriyang, also known as Dolly, a Thai–American girl who grows up in conditions not much different from a slum. She lives with her American father, Don, and her grandmother, Yai Maen. Don tells Dolly that her mother, Manee, left the family when Dolly was very young because she could not endure hardship.
Don earns a living selling Pad Thai noodles and gradually becomes well-known—not only because he is a foreigner cooking Thai food, but also because of his excellent skills. As his business grows, Dolly has to leave college to help him and instead continues her studies in the evening. She is often accompanied by Nainchanok, a senior student who looks after her.
Nainchanok has an older sister, Nartnaree, who has just returned from studying in the United States. Nartnaree is proud and ambitious, trying to get close to Karin Worapisut, a wealthy and handsome young man who studied abroad and is admired by many women—including Thipthida, an ambitious friend of Kanyanee, Karin’s younger sister.
At a welcome party for Karin’s return, Nainchanok meets Thipthida, his childhood friend, and also meets Khunying Donya, Karin and Kanyanee’s stepmother. Everyone admires Donya’s beauty and grace—except Songsaeng, the nanny, who secretly desires her position.
Behind her refined image, Donya hides a painful past. While studying in the United States, she fell in love with an American man, married him, and had a daughter—without her family’s knowledge. Later, she was called back to Thailand when her father, a government minister, suddenly passed away, leaving the family in financial trouble. Her mother forced her to marry Khun Pakasit to restore their status, and she agreed for the sake of her family.
Two years later, she tried to contact her former husband, only to learn that he had come to Thailand with their daughter to find her. Still, she had no choice but to remain in her current marriage.
Meanwhile, Kanyanee hears about Don’s famous Pad Thai shop and visits, where she meets Dolly and Nainchanok. She is charmed by Dolly’s warm and natural personality and becomes a regular customer. However, Nainchanok’s family disapproves of his relationship with a street vendor’s daughter.
As Don’s shop becomes even more famous and appears in newspapers, Anthony Black, Donya’s American friend, sees Don’s photo and shows it to her. Realizing the connection, Donya informs her mother and asks for permission to reunite with her former family.
At the same time, Manee—the woman legally married to Don—returns and reveals to Yai Maen that Dolly is not actually her biological daughter. She had only married Don to help him stay legally in Thailand. Later, she demands money in exchange for a divorce, but Don refuses, causing conflict.
Tensions escalate when rumors spread about Donya’s past relationship with a foreigner, putting pressure on her husband Pakasit. Eventually, Donya confesses everything to him and to Karin and Kanyanee. Despite everything, Pakasit decides to stand by her.
Meanwhile, Manee returns again and tries to take Dolly away. During a struggle, Yai Maen is violently pushed, hits her head, and later dies from her injuries. Dolly is devastated and begins to question her true identity.
As secrets begin to unravel, Nainchanok learns the truth about Dolly but hesitates to tell her. At the same time, Donya prepares to face the two people she loves most—her former husband and her child. She leaves the decision to Don, asking him to choose their future.
And now, Don must decide the path his life—and theirs—will take.
