Introduction
Thai television drama, or commonly known as "Lakorn", has been a long-standing entertainment in Thai society, reflecting the way of life, culture, and values of Thai people in each era. From the beginning in the black and white era to the digital TV and streaming era of today.
📻Pioneering Era (1955-1967)
The Beginning of Thai Television Drama
After Thailand opened Channel 4 Bang Khun Phrom in 1955, Thai television drama officially began.
🏆"Suriyani Mai Yom Taeng Ngan" - The First Thai TV Drama
Broadcast Year: 1956
Station: Channel 4 Bang Khun Phrom
Type: Single-episode drama
Specialty: Opened Thai drama history
Limited Set: Small studio size
Acting: Prompting during performance
Genre: Period romantic drama
Era: Black and white silent drama
Early Challenges
In the first years of broadcasting, there were only 6 TV dramas. Another 5 included "Krasun Akhat" (broadcast on March 25, 1956), which aired before the Royal Cremation Ceremony.
Actors could not memorize scripts yet, so prompting was necessary during performances. And due to the small studio size, limited sets were required, making dramas in this era single-episode plays.
